Santa Lucia
Perry Como Lyrics

Placida é l'onda
Prospero il vento
Sul mare luccica l'astro d'argento
Placida é l'onda
Prospero il vento
Barchette mie
Santa lucia, santa lucia
Venite all'argine
Barchette mie
Santa lucia, santa lucia
Soft winds caress the sea,
Breezes so tender,
Make every dancing wave,
Gladly surrender!
Days here are heavenly,
Nights are pure ecstasy,
Santa lucia, santa lucia!
Venite all'argine
Barchette mie
Santa lucia, santa lucia
Perry Como's song Santa Lucia is a beautiful tribute to the stunningly serene beauty and charm of Santa Lucia - an island located off the coast of Italy. The lyrics of the song celebrate the serene and tranquil maritime atmosphere that surrounds the island with vivid and masterful imagery. The picturesque beauty of the island as seen from the shores is painted with the vivid imagery of a silver star shining brightly over the calm sea while the gentle breezes slowly sway the waves of the sea ashore. The overall effect created by the imagery is one of calm and peace - a heaven on earth.
As the lyrics progress, the focus shifts from the natural surroundings to the inhabitants of the island themselves. The chorus of the song invites the boats that are moored alongside the shore to come out and ride the waves of the placid sea. The formation of the boats moving across the sea in unison is a sight to behold, and this sight allows the people to experience the true tranquillity and peace of the island. The song captures the essence of Santa Lucia's landscape and conveys it as an idyllic paradise on earth.
