When Day Is Done
Perry Como Lyrics

And shadows fall
I dream of you!
When day is done
I think of all
The joys we knew!
To hold you in my arms,
Won't go love, I know love,
Without you, night has lost it's charms!
When day is done
And grass is wet
With twilight's dew,
My lonely heart is sinking
With the sun!
Although I miss your tender kiss
The whole day through,
I miss you most of all
When day is done!
Although I miss your tender kiss
The whole day through,
I miss you most of all
When day is done!
Perry Como's song "When Day Is Done" is a poignant ballad about longing for a lost love. The lyrics reflect the singer's struggle to cope with the absence of his loved one, and how he dreams of their past together when the day is over. He reminisces their good times and the happiness that they shared, but it only amplifies his loneliness when he realizes that he cannot relive those moments with his love. As the singer sees the shadows fall, and the grass wet with twilight's dew, he is reminded of the loss. The lyrics evoke a sense of melancholy and yearning, as the singer's heart sinks with the sun. He longs to hold his love in his arms, but without her, the night has lost its charms. As his loneliness persists, the singer ultimately misses his love most when the day is done.
The song was composed by Dr. Robert Katscher, a prominent Austrian composer and producer, and the lyrics were written by Buddy DeSylva, a songwriter and producer who worked with George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. The song was originally released in 1926, and it quickly became a hit, with performances by Harry Richman, Dennis Day, and other notable artists. It has since been recorded by numerous artists, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Doris Day. The song has become a jazz standard, and it has been incorporated into numerous films, including the 1931 film "The Three Musketeers."

When day is done
At the end of the day
And shadows fall
When the light dims and darkness creeps in
I dream of you!
I imagine being with you
When day is done
At the end of the day
I think of all
I reminisce about
The joys we knew!
The happy times we've shared
That yearning, returning,
The desire that never fades,
To hold you in my arms,
To embrace and hold you close,
Won't go love, I know love,
It will always be there, I am sure,
Without you, night has lost it's charms!
Night loses its appeal without you by my side
When day is done
At the end of the day
And grass is wet
When dew gathers on the grass
With twilight's dew,
Under the faint light of dusk,
My lonely heart is sinking
My heart is heavy with sadness,
With the sun!
As the sun sets
Although I miss your tender kiss
Even though I long for your soft, gentle kiss
The whole day through,
Throughout the entire day,
I miss you most of all
The feeling of longing is greatest,
When day is done!
When the day comes to a close.
Although I miss your tender kiss
Even though I long for your soft, gentle kiss
The whole day through,
Throughout the entire day,
I miss you most of all
The feeling of longing is greatest,
When day is done!
When the day comes to a close.
