He joined Psi Com in 1983, and they released the Psi Com EP in 1985, only to split up later that year. Jane's Addiction followed shortly thereafter, releasing their first album, the live self-titled album Jane's Addiction in 1987 on indie label XXX Records. Warner Bros. won a bidding war to sign the band, and in 1988 they released their first studio album, Nothing's Shocking. The follow-up to that ground-breaking album would be the equally well-received Ritual de lo Habitual in 1990. But the group would split up in 1991 due to friction between him and the band. Then in 1992 he formed Porno For Pyros and released two albums in 1993 and 1996. They eventually split up in 1997, and he pursued a solo career. Jane's Addiction eventually would reunite for a while, only to split up again.
His latest project is called Satellite Party, started in the summer of 2005 which found him playing with former Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Gabriele Corcos, playing in his revived Lollapalooza festival. Intention to release an album in 2006 was announced, as was a new Porno For Pyros album for the same year. It should be an interesting year if all that comes to fruition.
Say Something
Perry Farrell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I like to make love out loud
I always keep a fire burning
And friends help fill things out
When you're someone
Who meets someone?
Meets the shadow
Like a man meets his match
And in this crowded room
There's only one I see
One who makes my fire burn
Her eyes reach out to me
When you're someone
Who meets someone?
Like the clouds
Meet the mountains
And they sing out snowy notes
Cherubs turn away their blushing faces
Leaving us aroused and bare
In your garden, everything is there
When you're someone
Who meets someone?
Oh, you've got to say something
Sing out snowy notes!
Cherubs turn away their blushing faces
Leaving us aroused and bare
The lyrics to Perry Farrell's song, Say Something, depict a person who enjoys the company of others, dancing in crowds, and making love out loud. This person always keeps a fire burning, and their friends help fill out their life. The lyrics suggest that this person has met someone special, like the shade meeting the shadow or a man meeting his match. In a crowded room, there is only one person that they see, and their eyes reach out to one another, igniting a fire that burns between them. The lyrics use vivid imagery to describe the intensity of their connection, comparing it to the clouds meeting the mountains and singing out snowy notes. The lyrics further suggest that their connection is so intense that even cherubs turn away from their blushing faces, leaving the two of them aroused and bare in a garden where everything is there.
The lyrics to Say Something are open to interpretation, but they seem to convey an intense connection between two people who have met and feel a strong attraction to one another. The lyrics use sensual imagery to describe this connection, evoking the senses and creating a vivid picture of the passion between the two people. The lyrics suggest that when you meet someone special, like the shade meeting the shadow or a man meeting his match, you must say something and not let the opportunity pass you by.
