Ribeiro started his artistic career by providing singing and voices in Walt Disney animated movies. In 1944, he acted in the film Berlim na Batucada, by Luís de Barros. His debut on radio was in 1959, on Rádio Nacional, where he took his stage name Pery Ribeiro on suggestion of his godfather César de Alencar. In 1960, Ribeiro had his first song, "Não Devo Insistir" (written with Dora Lopes), recorded by Dalva de Oliveira. Ribeiro recorded his first single in the same year. In 1961, he recorded the bossa nova classics "Manhã de Carnaval" and "Samba de Orfeu" (both by Luís Bonfá and Antônio Maria) and "Barquinho" (Roberto Menescal and Ronaldo Bôscoli), among others.
The first LP came in 1962, “Pery Ribeiro e Seu Mundo de Canções Românticas”, backed by Luís Bonfá on the guitar. In the next year, "Pery é Todo Bossa" had an enormous success with the first recording of "Garota de Ipanema" (by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes), along with other bossa nova classics like "Me Lembro Vagamente," "Nós e o Mar," "Ah! Se eu Pudesse," and "Rio" (all by Roberto Menescal and Ronaldo Bôscoli) and originals.
In 1965, he formed the group "Gemini V" with Leny Andradel and the bossa nova trio Bossa 3. They performed at the Porão 73 club and at the Princesa Isabel theater ("Rio"), also releasing a live record of the shows. In 1966, Ribeiro went to the U.S. where he joined the Bossa Rio (Sérgio Mendes, Gracinha Leporace, Osmar Milito, Manfredo Fest, Otávio Bailly, and Ronnie Mesquita), performing in several American cities.
Pery Ribeiro passed away on February 24, 2012.
We Are the Champions

Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions
In Pery Ribeiro's song "We Are The Champions," the lyrics convey a sense of triumph and resilience in the face of adversity. The singer starts by stating that they have faced challenges and paid their dues, but they have not committed any crimes. They acknowledge making mistakes along the way and enduring humiliation, but despite all that, they have managed to overcome and emerge stronger. The chorus emphasizes their victory, proclaiming that they are the champions and they will continue to fight until the end. There is no time for losers because they are the champions of the world.
The lyrics also express gratitude towards the people who have supported the singer throughout their journey. They mention taking bows and receiving applause from the audience, which has brought them fame, fortune, and everything that comes with it. However, they acknowledge that their success hasn't come without challenges. It hasn't been an easy road or a pleasure cruise. They consider it a challenge for the entire human race, and they are determined not to lose.
Overall, the song "We Are The Champions" is an anthem celebrating perseverance, triumph, and the indomitable spirit of champions who refuse to give up.
