Givin' up, givin' in
I won't be no fool again
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Yeah (I'm givin' up now)

I'm givin' up, givin' in
You can sweet talk to the wind
'Cause I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Yeah, yeah (I'm givin' up now)

Too much givin', just no take
Guess I saw it all too late
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Yeah (I'm givin' up now)

All those lies and alibis
That you smoothed out every time
Now I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)

Givin' up, always regrettin'
Givin' up, all your deceivin'
Givin' up, always excusing ( yeah )
Givin' up, (there's) no more delusion

Givin' up, allways regrettin'
Givin' up, no more forgivin'
Givin' up, too many alibis
Givin' up, all of your stupid lies

I'm givin' up, I'm givin' in
'Cause this old heart ain't gonna rule my head
Now I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' in (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' in (I'm giving up now)

I'm givin' up, I'm givin' in
My blind hate has got eyes again
I'm givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' in (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' up (I'm givin' up now)
Yeah (I'm givin' up now)

I'm givin' up, I'm givin' in
I won't be no fool again
I'm givin' up, yeah (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' in (I'm givin' up now)
Giving up (I'm givin' up now)
Yeah (I'm givin' up now)

I'm givin' up, givin' in
You can go sweet talk to the wind
'Cause I'm givin' up, yeah (I'm givin' up now)
Givin' in (I'm givin' up now)
I'm givin' up, yeah (I'm givin' up now)

Givin' up, always regrettin'
Givin' up, all your deceivin'
Givin' up, always excusing ( yeah )
Givin' up, (there's) no more delusion

Givin' up, always regrettin'
Givin' up, no more forgivin'
Givin' up, always believin'
Givin' up, all your deceivin'

Givin' up, can't you be honest once in life
Givin' up, all of these cruel lies
Givin' up, all of your alibis
Givin' up, all of your stupid lies, yeah

Givin' up
Givin' up
Givin' up

Givin' up, always regrettin'
Givin' up, all your deceivin'
Givin' up, always excusing ( yeah )
Givin' up, (there's) no more delusion

Givin' up, allways regrettin'
Givin' up, no more forgivin'

Givin' up, too many alibis
Givin' up, all of your stupid lies

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pete Bellotte's song "Givin' Up Givin' In" convey a message about finally letting go of a toxic relationship. The singer is tired of always giving and receiving nothing in return. They refuse to be fooled again and decide to give up on the relationship. The song reflects the frustrations of someone who has tried to work things out but is now at a point where they can no longer forgive or believe the lies and alibis.

The repeated line of "I'm givin' up" emphasizes the finality of the decision and the firmness behind it. The use of the phrase "sweet talk to the wind" suggests that the other party's words are empty and meaningless. The singer recognizes that they were too giving and saw the situation too late.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of empowerment that comes from taking control of one's life and moving on from a toxic situation. The song can be interpreted as a call to stand up for oneself and to refuse to be manipulated or deceived.

Outstanding track. (and great digital transfer) The spare vocals and the electronic gadgetry definitely pointed the way toward the whole 80s era of dance music. (as disco would be re-branded just a couple years later.)

I first heard this on radio in Southern California, back in the day; it was, and still is, electric! A few days ago, I found a copy of the album this song is on (love the medley). As a DJ, I'm really happy to have it in my possession now. This is such a nice one, with Moroder's touch.

This song also was a hit here in Brazil.

This was released in 1978-1979...Not 1982. It was still a hit then, but the Three Degrees kept up on the charts from the late 70's - 80's. People still love this to this day, including me! D.J. David R. from Canada :-)

I always wondered why the Three Degrees didn’t achieve the success they deserved during the disco era, considering the power house that was Giorgio Moroder backing the ladies up with these glossy heavenly electronic dance productions, that mirror the incomparable sound of Donna Summer at the time. Same for other Giorgio protégées like Roberta Kelly. Still ...for dance dance these are classic to savor.

I'm in shock! Heard this song many times but never knew it was by Pete Bellotte! And I'm a huge fan of the Three Degrees!
