She spent all afternoon getting ready

She arrived at six, and the place was swinging

Group after group appeared on the stage

And Sally just sat there crying

Tommy carried on preaching
Tommy continued to preach as if nothing had happened

And his voice filled Sally's ears
Sally continued to hear Tommy's voice.

She caught his eye, she had to try
Sally tried to catch and maintain eye contact with Tommy

But couldn't see through their lights
It wasn't possible to see through the bright lights

Her face was gashed, and the ambulance men
Her face was slashed when she was thrown away and the ambulance crew,

Had to carry her out that night
Hemorrhage is a condition that lasts the night
