Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

If you need some inspiration before we go, just know
It's the way I have fallen in with you
Come with me, I just wanna say hello
It's the way I have fallen in with you
On the way, we can wash off in the stream
So come with me to a river I have seenTime is waiting for the lightning to arrive
You can tell that's the way I'll survive
You can take my life but I'll never die
Driving around, nothing to do
We just made a bad decision, that's alright
So here we are now, a couple of fools
You can tell that's the way I'll survive
You can take my life, but I'll never die
Looking for the bandstand in the sky
In "Bandstand In The Sky" by Pete Yorn, the singer invites his companion to join him in exploring an unknown and mysterious location. This invitation is a metaphor for the journey that he wants to take with his loved one. He seeks to find inspiration and new experiences, and he wants to experience them with his lover. The opening lines of the song capture the singer's enchantment with his lover, describing how he's "fallen in" with her. The lyrics express an unspoken desire to take the relationship to a more profound and meaningful level.
As the song progresses, the singer describes a stream that they'll wash off in as they continue their journey. This represents the cleansing of their old, stale life and a fresh start to a new journey together. The line "Time is waiting for the lightning to arrive" could mean that the journey will only begin once the time is right, or it's an indication that the singer doesn't want to rush into anything. The final verse describes the thrill of living life's momentary pleasures, regardless of the consequences. The line "You can take my life, but I'll never die" could mean that the singer is not afraid to take risks; he is fully in love and refusing to let go of his passion for living life to the fullest.
