Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

I won't commit my friend
And if you pay for your mistakes
You can break apology
It's just fine
I won't commit my friend
When you come back from your escape
You can make a person's dayCause it's your time
You come back and you don't tell
The truth to me, no more
It's alright
I won't commit my friend
When you come back from your escape
I don't need apology
Yeah it's just fine
I won't convince my friend
And you don't know just what to say
Once you make your plan
You follow it just right
I know you never meant to let nobody down
You never feel the way I found
Come and see
Oh, I won't commit my friend
You won't pay for your mistakes
And I don't make apologies
Yeah it's alright
I won't convince my friend
When you don't know just what to say
I don't think I'll ever come to hear it all
You want to feel so bad
For doing nothing all this time
You're doing nothing
(You just feel left out!)You're always up to no one's business
Always up to
Only witness
When you come back from your escape
Then I could follow you to hell
The lyrics to Pete Yorn's song Committed appear to be about a friendship that has gone sour due to the friend's tendency to be unreliable and not take responsibility for their actions. The singer of the song refuses to commit to the friendship, perhaps out of fear of being let down again. The friend is urged to pay for their mistakes and make amends, but the singer is not convinced that any apology will be genuine. The line "You can make a person's day" seems to suggest that the friend has a lot of potential, but they need to take responsibility for their actions and make better choices.
The singer seems to be frustrated with the friend's lack of truthfulness, and the friend's "escape" is seen as a way of avoiding responsibility. The line "You follow it just right" may refer to the friend's habit of making plans but not following through with them. The singer acknowledges that the friend probably didn't mean to let anyone down, but their actions have consequences. The line "You're always up to no one's business" suggests that the friend is perhaps a bit of a troublemaker or gossip, and not someone to be trusted.
Overall, the song seems to be about the difficulties of maintaining a friendship with someone who is unreliable and lacking in accountability. The singer of the song is unwilling to commit to the friendship until the friend shows that they are willing to take responsibility for their actions and make amends.
