Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

What I think of us
Won't be here tomorrow
I get so mixed up
It's a shame that we're not living in the country
A place that I once seen before
In a book you've always loved but never showed me You know I never lost before
Baby I don't mind
Where I'm going to
Love that asks for nothing
Love that we never knew
In the days when we were living in the city
It seemed that we were talking more
I can never love you like the way you love me
And these are things I can't ignore
You know I never lost before
We give it up to a world that was never true
It was always me and you
Baby I can tell
It's not coming back
Won't be here tomorrow
I know we'll be fine with that
In the days when we were living we were happy
The thing that we were waiting for
From a book you've always loved but never showed me
These are things I can't ignore You know I never lost before
You know I never lost before
You know I never wanted it more
You and I were 2 of a kind,
I hate to say it but we'll never relate
You and I were 2 of a kind,
You made me smile
The lyrics of Pete Yorn's song "Country" are introspective and mournful, expressing a sense of confusion and ambivalence about a romantic relationship. The singer begins by admitting that they don't know what to think about their partnership; they feel overwhelmed and uncertain about its future. The lyrics suggest that the singer and their partner have been through difficult times in the past, but that they were once happy together. However, their current situation is fraught with tension and uncertainty.
The singer then reflects on the possibility of a simpler, more authentic life in the country, away from the complexities and demands of the city. They suggest that the country represents a place of innocence and beauty, but acknowledge that they have never actually been there with their partner. The song's title serves as a metaphor for a more innocent, idealized time and place that the singer longs for, but knows they can never return to.
Throughout the song, the singer seems to be grappling with their own feelings of guilt and regret. They admit that they have never lost before, suggesting a sense of pride and control over their life and relationships. However, they are also aware that their relationship is not based on true love and connection, but on something more superficial and fleeting. In the end, the singer seems resigned to the fact that their relationship is coming to an end, but also suggests that they will always cherish the happy moments they shared with their partner.
