Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

Along these shores
Old Hollywood
We're knocking down
We're sifting through
We are the actual tigers
When winter comes
They leave behind us Throw your arms around my neck
And hold me tightly
There's a lot that we will get
I'm asking you
Let your diamond bracelet fall
Over the ice age
Over the ice age
Those summer years
We'd follow them in light of day
In light of us
We'll see it through
When they're playing our song
Those summer years
Have long since gone
Throw your arms around my neck
And whisper softly
Of a thing that we will get
I'm asking you
Let your diamond bracelet fall
Over the ice age
Over the ice age
I want to go back
I want to go back
In future time
Imagining
We weren't older
Yet, through it all they'll
Be playing our song
Throw your arms around my neck
And whisper softly
Of a thing that we will get
I'm asking you
Let your diamond bracelet fall
Over the ice age
Over the ice age
The lyrics to Pete Yorn's song "Ice Age" depict a wistful longing for a past time, which is gone or is rapidly passing away. The song seems to address the theme of nostalgia, with the imagery of winter representing a time of change and transition when things are left behind and new things come to take their place. The reference to "Old Hollywood" being knocked down suggests a sense of loss of something that used to be vibrant and alive, but now is fading away. The phrase "we are the actual tigers" is a metaphor for the sense of urgency and vitality that the singer feels, a desire to hold onto something that is rapidly slipping away.
The chorus of the song, with its repeated refrain of "let your diamond bracelet fall over the ice age," seems to suggest a sense of accepting the inevitability of change, and embracing the idea of letting go of material things that are ultimately ephemeral. The idea of the diamond bracelet falling over the ice age is a powerful image of something valuable and precious being lost to time, yet also serving as a reminder of the transience of all things.
Overall, "Ice Age" is a poignant and evocative song that encapsulates the deep longing and sense of loss that often comes with the passing of time, while also celebrating the beauty and fleeting nature of life.

When winter comes
As the cold season approaches

Old Hollywood
The glamourous past of the entertainment industry
We're knocking down
We're tearing down old structures and traditions
We're sifting through
We're searching through the remnants of the past
We are the actual tigers
We are the ones who are truly bold and fierce
They leave behind us
Those who came before us are no longer with us
Throw your arms around my neck
Hug me tightly
And hold me tightly
Embrace me securely
There's a lot that we will get
There are many things we will attain
I'm asking you
I am requesting of you
Let your diamond bracelet fall
Remove your expensive jewelry
Over the ice age
During this cold and difficult time
Those summer years
Those past carefree and warm times
We'd follow them in light of day
We would pursue those memories during daylight hours
In light of us
With us as our current perspective
We'll see it through
We will endure until the end
When they're playing our song
When our experiences are being celebrated
Have long since gone
Are far in the past
And whisper softly
Speak gently and quietly
Of a thing that we will get
Of something we will obtain
I want to go back
I desire to return to a previous time
In future time
In times yet to come
We'll hold it closer
We will treasure it and keep it close to us
Imagining
Visualizing something that isn't currently a reality
We weren't older
We were still young and carefree
Yet, through it all they'll
Even with the passage of time
Be playing our song
Our experiences will continue to be celebrated
Over the ice age
During these difficult and challenging times
