Don't tell you their role
Policies drive a nation
Don't tell you their role
Clearly think
Clearly see
Gonna take you over
Gonna take you overProphecies drive a nation
Don't take the low road
Policies drive vacations
Don't take the low road
Clearly think
Clearly see
It's gonna take you over
Gonna take you over
Hey, boy, are you cut with that?
Hey, boy, are you cut with that?
I've gone over
I got everything that I've got
1, 2, 3, 4!
Policies drive a nation
Don't tell you their roles
Clearly sees
Clearly thinks
It's gonna take you over
Gonna take you over
Hey, boy, are you cut with that?
Hey, boy, are you cut with that?
I've crossed over
I've crossed over
Boy, are you cut with that?
Hey, boy, are you cut with that?
I've gone over
I crossed over

The lyrics to Pete Yorn's song "Policies" draw attention to the significant impact that government policies have on society. Yorn highlights how policies can drive a nation and take people over, all without telling them their true role. The repetition of "policies drive a nation" emphasizes the importance of being aware of the policies that affect society, even if they are not transparent about their intentions. The lyrics also touch on the dangers of blindly following policies, warning against taking the low road.
The line "prophecies drive a nation" adds a layer of complexity to the song's message, suggesting that policies are often driven by predictions of the future, rather than a tangible understanding of current circumstances. The use of "prophecies" creates a sense of foreboding, hinting at the potential for policies to lead to negative outcomes. Overall, "Policies" encourages listeners to critically analyze the policies that shape our world and to be conscious of their effects.
