Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

Hey,
don't take your life away,
I think you'd rather stay,
then follow me into the alleyway,
we were passers on the street,
I never thought we'd meet until I said, "How do you do, my love?",
you'll fall,
you'll fall,
hey don't stop and turn away,
I'm sure you'd rather stay,
than follow me into the alleyway,
we were passers on the street,
don't turn it into grief,
just follow me into disaster,
you'll fall,
you'll fall,
fall'.
hey don't look and turn away,
lose your life today and follow me into the alleyway,
you should turn and walk with me,
I'll even follow Him,
in search of wretched grand disaster,
Simonize.
A girl Like You
Someday
I'll look into her green eyes
And know that she'll come with me
A girl like you
Too many
Things I do not care for
But one thing that I adore
Is a girl like you
I'll always try
To look you in the eye
It's okay
With a girl like you
Tomorrow
I think I'll tell you something
The thing that I haven't said
To a girl like you
And even if
I don't know what the day will bring
Still I can tell most anything
To a girl like you
I'll always try
To look you in the eye
It's okay
With a girl like you
It's okay
With a girl like you
A girl like you
The first section of the song "Simonize" is a call for someone not to take their own life, as the singer believes that the person would rather stay alive than die. The singer invites the person to follow them into an alleyway, and even though they were merely strangers on the street, the singer believes that they were meant to meet. The second part of "Simonize" is an attempt by the singer to convince the person to follow them into a situation that could lead to disaster. The singer seems to be almost daring the person to take a risk, saying that they will fall, but adding the invitation "Simonize" at the end of the song, as if to say that the person should make themselves shiny and new, even if it means taking a risk.
The lyrics of "A Girl Like You" suggest the singer's admiration for a person with green eyes. They acknowledge that there may be things that they don't like or care for in life, but the thing they adore is a girl with green eyes, such as the person they are addressing in the song. The singer expresses their intention to tell the girl something the next day, even if they don't know what the day may bring. They claim that they can tell anything to someone like the girl they are singing to, as they can always look into her eyes and feel okay.
