Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

The days are caused, you know I never try
And I love you like the one I used to know
And if you never had the time
To last an ordinary problem
And I said I'd like to have a place to go
And you live, and you tryI could never find another
If you walk me to the car park, I won't go
To I live this all time
Flashing for that sees be saw you
I could love you like a sister,
But never had
Drawing circles in your concrete
I will know your every move
And I'll send ya, I'll send ya
And you live, and you try
I could never find another
If you walk me to the car park, I won't go
And we live, and we try
Live was hard on us between us
I will love you, I won't let go
We are one inside these walls, undercover
We are one inside these walls, undercover
We are one inside these walls, undercover
We are one in
We are one in
We are one
I could never find another
If you walk me to the car park, I won't go
And we live, and we try
Live was hard on us between us
I will love you, I won't let go
We are one
We are one
We are one
We are one
The lyrics of Pete Yorn's song "Undercover" are a little ambiguous, but seem to be about unrequited love with an emphasis on a strong connection and unity between the two people involved. The singer declares his love for someone he used to know, and expresses that he could never find another like her. While he recognizes that the relationship may not have been perfect ("And if you never had the time / To last an ordinary problem"), he still longs for a place with her. The repetition and emphasis on being "one inside these walls, undercover" creates a sense of secrecy, almost as if their love is a secret from the rest of the world.
The chorus, with its repetition of "We are one", underscores this theme of unity, as if love can transcend all of the distractions and divisions of the world outside. The lines "Flashing for that sees be saw you / I could love you like a sister" are more enigmatic, but suggest a bond that may not be fully realized, perhaps due to some personal or social obstacles. Overall, the song seems to be about a desire for unity and connection, even in the face of uncertainty or obstacles.
