Moving
Pete and the Pirates Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Moving round
Going
Go go down
You see what you've got on your mind
Roaming
Roaming hands
Fingers can't wait to do the little dance
Sometimes I forget
That we can't stay in bed
Sometimes I'll forget
Knocking
Knocking boots
And we'll beat the car home too
And the neighbours stop and stare
We'll take
Every chance
And I'll take you to France
It's the whole resultant dance
You leave your camera at home
And the roaming hands roam
Sometimes I'll forget
that we can't stay in bed
The lyrics of "Moving" by Pete and the Pirates talk about a couple who are enjoying life together, taking every chance and dancing through it all. They move around and go wherever they want. The roaming hands and rushing fingers can't wait to do the little dance. They don't care about the opinions of their neighbors or anyone else as they beat the car home. They are in the moment and enjoying every bit of it.
The song seems to be about seizing the day and living in the present moment. Sometimes, the couple forgets that they cannot stay in bed forever and must face the real world. However, that thought never stays for too long, quickly overtaken by the fun and adventure they seek in life. The line "You leave your camera at home and the roaming hands roam" indicates that the couple is more interested in experiencing life without distraction or the need to capture every moment on film.
Overall, Moving by Pete and the Pirates is a song that encourages people to take risks and enjoy every moment while they can. In a world that's always busy, sometimes it's important to pause, dance, and move to the rhythm of life.
