Absolutely no excuse for physical violence. I wish they could communicate their feelings more, the sisters are worried Ari is too controlling and Biniyam has also been complaining to them about that so they are worried he is controlled by Ari too much and need to defend him, Ari is worried if she doesn' t control Biniyam she is going to lose him. Ari and Biniyam need to develop that trust, so that Ari doesn't get triggered every time she feels threatened that Biniyam is going to leave her and so she deosn't rely on the only tools she knows how to do which is controlling him. That can feel very scary for Biniyam. There are other tools to feel assured and trust each other other than control and i hope they can find that balance!

That whole conversation went sideways. I kinda don't like Ari so I can't say I feel bad for her sorry - I know his sisters are wrong but she annoys me. Binyam should have told his sisters. It's natural in the moment that they are going to be angry and upset and feel abandoned unloved and wonder why their brother did this - could it be his wife etc is a natural suspicion that would happen - she shouldn't have thrown a drink in her face...but I'm honestly surprised it didn't progress towards more physical assault considering the low esteem they hold her in and how insulted they felt.

The statement that she was marrying her brother and not them is the huge cultural divide. The family is held in such a high importance as a unit in Binyam's culture. You marry the family - and they will never be able to overcome that. Bini may be happy to Americanize and move on and move away, to his family this will be a deep source of divide and pain and it does feel like a personal insult and affront to have his wife say this. They needed a third party mediator for this discussion.

@@Momofukudoodoowindu Yes, I actually feel very bad for Binyam and his family. In this they both lose. If Binyam wants his son he has to move away and be a part of that unit. It will be a better life for their child and ultimately I think is a good decision.

His family has to live their worse fear, in many ways. Since the beginning they've been afraid of losing their nephew or their brother.

It's a tough situation - I would never advocate that Ari (as much as I dislike her) just stay to make their family happy. They need to do what they really want to do as a family and what is best for their son. It's a painful situation for his immediate family members.
