He began singing at around the age of six or seven and played at working men's clubs from the age of 13.
His first album New Vintage was released in April 2006 and entered at number 8 in the British album charts, largely thanks to his chat show appearances with Michael Parkinson and Davina McCall. His second album Traditional was released on 17 September 2007.
Peter appeared in concert on two editions of BBC Radio 2's Big Band Special this summer, as well as taking part in Radio 2's Tribute to Don Black on stage at The London Palladium.

Joanna
Peter Grant Lyrics

I can't forget the one they call Joanna
We owned the summer, hand in hand Joanna
And now she's always just a tear away
Goodbye you, you long lost summer
Leaving me behind you
Revealing things for lovers that may find you
Joanna
You made the man a child again, so sweetly
He breathed your smile
Lived in your eyes completely
And on his heart there's still a trace of you
I love you but nothing in this world could make you mine
Yet still in time
Joanna
Joanna, you may remember me and change your mind
Joanna!
I love you but nothing in this world could make you mine
Yet still in time
Joanna
Joanna, you may remember me and change your mind
The lyrics to Peter Grant's song 'Joanna' is a nostalgic reflection on a past summer love between the singer and Joanna. The singer reflects back to a time when he and Joanna owned the summer together and how she still remains just a tear away. He is clearly still hung up on her and remembers every word that passed between them on that fateful day, suggesting that it may have been the last time they saw each other. The song also mentions how Joanna made the singer feel like a child again, and how he remains deeply affected by her even though she may not feel the same.
The sentiment of the lyrics is reminiscent of summer love or a fleeting romance, where there is a sense of innocence and discovery, and the magic of the moment cannot be replicated. Peter Grant's vocals work brilliantly in conveying the wistful, reflective tone of the lyrics. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the summer and the emotions felt during that time, showcasing the power of music to transport the listener back to a specific moment in time.
