No Sympathy
Peter Tosh Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind of love
They've got for me

I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find
Some peace and rest

When I'm in troubles, yeah
Only me only, only me me feel the pain
No one good word of advice
From any of my so-called friends

I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind, what kind of love
They've got for me

I'm on my way, yes
To happiness
Where I can find, where I can find
Some peace and rest

Might as well, might as well
I get out, I get out of hell
Hell could never be made for me
So I'm gonna search, search 'til I'm free

No love, no love
No sympathy
What kind, what kind of love
They've got for me

I'm on, I'm on, I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find, where I can find
Some peace and rest

I can't find no love
No, no sympathy
What kind, what kind, what kind of love
They got, they got, they got for me

On my way
To happiness
Where I can find, can find
Some peace and rest

I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind, what kind
They've got for me

They don't love themselves
So they can't love no one else
They don't love themselves
So they can't love no one else

I just can't find, find, find no love
I can't find, fand, find no sympathy
I can't find, can't find, can't find no love at all
What kind of love, love, love
People got for me

I'm searchin'

Overall Meaning

The song No Sympathy by Peter Tosh is a lamentation about the lack of love and empathy in the world. Tosh expresses the feeling of being alone in his struggles and not receiving any support from his friends or loved ones. The first stanza of the song is a repetition of the chorus which sets the tone for the rest of the song. He is not getting the love and sympathy he desires from the people around him.

In the second stanza, Tosh talks about his pursuit of happiness and the need for peace and rest. He yearns for a life where he can find happiness without the constant troubles and pain he feels. However, he feels like he is on his own in his search for happiness, as no one is there to offer him the advice he needs.

In the final stanza, Tosh sheds light on the reason why people are unable to offer love and sympathy to others. He believes that people cannot love others because they don't love themselves. Tosh is not disheartened by this realization and continues his journey towards happiness and freedom.

Overall, No Sympathy is a powerful song that addresses the need for love and empathy in society. Tosh highlights the struggles of being alone in one's struggles and the significance of self-love in loving others.

After years and years listening to reaggae albums i have come to a conclusion that this album and Bob marley uprising are the best reggae albums ever of course there are so many contenders but this 2 albums are really spiritual

@fredvan6043

Well, everyone has his own favourites. I like both, but my personal top-4 would be: Upsetters-Superape / Singers&Players-War of Words / Singers&Players-Revenge of the Underdog / Bob Marley&Wailers-Live. As for Peter Tosh, if I had to pick one album it would be his second LP Equal Rights. But many contenders indeed! 🙂
