1) Petra is a Christian Rock band formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Bill Glover, John DeGroff, and Greg Hough. "Petra" means "rock" in NT Greek, making the band name a triple pun. Rising from the Jesus music movement, and initially signed to [recordlabel]Myrrh Records[/recordlabel], they fought to gain acceptance and recognition in a church culture that at the time believed rock music to be off-limits. Over time they eventually won over most of their critics, thanks to a steady approach and some solid adult contemporary airplay hits like "The Coloring Song," outside of their usual rock fare. By the mid-80's, when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band and was replaced by John Schlitt, Petra had solidified their place as the foremost Christian rock band in the industry with a string of hit albums and singles and strong touring. The release of Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out marked a turn towards modern-sounding worship music that would soon explode into the modern worship movement.
Petra was nominated for and won numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1991, after the release of their acclaimed Beyond Belief record, Petra became the first rock band ever to win for Group of the Year at the Dove Awards. They were also the first Christian rock band to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
For three decades Petra continued to produce albums despite changes in their line-up as well as the genre and market. On May 24th, 2005 Petra announced their retirement after 33 years of ministry. They recorded one of their final performances in Franklin, Tennessee to release it as their last album, Farewell. Their last performance finished in the early hours of January 1, 2006 in Murphy, North Carolina. Bob Hartman and John Schlitt continue to tour under the moniker II Guys From Petra.

Based on Joshua 24:15
You've been running and running
Running for a long time
Your time is winding up
You better make up your mind
It's getting late in the evening
You better get right while
He may be found
(Chorus)
I want to know where
Who's on the Lord's side
I want to know where
Who's on the Lord's side
Where do you stand
Come on, come on
I'm on the Lord's side
You got to work, got to work, work while it's day
For the night is coming when you can't find your way
Oh sinner I wonder what will you do
You better choose this day - tomorrow's not promised to you
Get up if you're on the Lord's side
Get on your feet
The song "Who's On The Lord's Side" is a call to action to make a decision about one's faith in Jesus Christ. The lyrics describe a sense of urgency, conveying the message that time is running out for those who have yet to make a choice. The reference to Joshua 24:15 emphasizes the importance of choosing the Lord's side, as it echoes Joshua's words to the Israelites to choose who they will serve: "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
The first verse speaks to those who have been running away from making a decision and warns them that their time is running out. The chorus then asks the question, "who's on the Lord's side?" - a call to action to make a decision and choose to stand with God. The second verse emphasizes the importance of taking action in the present moment, as tomorrow is not promised. The song concludes with an invitation to those who have chosen to stand with the Lord to rise up and declare their faith.
Overall, the lyrics of "Who's On The Lord's Side" serve as a reminder of the importance of making a decision about one's faith in Jesus Christ and emphasizes the urgency of doing so before it is too late.

The song that nearly got me kicked out as a Sunday school teacher. I brought the CD into my 3/4 grade class. It was the end of season. The boys ate it up. Pulling out air guitars. The girls danced. The parents were NOT amused. 25 years later one of the boys is associate pastor at very same church and now leads the contemporary service. Yes! God us the true rock in Rock'n'roll

God is good! May his glory goes on and on throughout all generations!

Hahaha, so true! God gave rock ‘n roll to us!!
To think the Creator of the universe is limited in how or what can be used to show Himself is demonstrates a lack of understanding and imagination of His POWER and GLORY.
