1) Petra is a Christian Rock band formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Bill Glover, John DeGroff, and Greg Hough. "Petra" means "rock" in NT Greek, making the band name a triple pun. Rising from the Jesus music movement, and initially signed to [recordlabel]Myrrh Records[/recordlabel], they fought to gain acceptance and recognition in a church culture that at the time believed rock music to be off-limits. Over time they eventually won over most of their critics, thanks to a steady approach and some solid adult contemporary airplay hits like "The Coloring Song," outside of their usual rock fare. By the mid-80's, when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band and was replaced by John Schlitt, Petra had solidified their place as the foremost Christian rock band in the industry with a string of hit albums and singles and strong touring. The release of Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out marked a turn towards modern-sounding worship music that would soon explode into the modern worship movement.
Petra was nominated for and won numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1991, after the release of their acclaimed Beyond Belief record, Petra became the first rock band ever to win for Group of the Year at the Dove Awards. They were also the first Christian rock band to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
For three decades Petra continued to produce albums despite changes in their line-up as well as the genre and market. On May 24th, 2005 Petra announced their retirement after 33 years of ministry. They recorded one of their final performances in Franklin, Tennessee to release it as their last album, Farewell. Their last performance finished in the early hours of January 1, 2006 in Murphy, North Carolina. Bob Hartman and John Schlitt continue to tour under the moniker II Guys From Petra.

Meet With Me
Petra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Come and meet with me
I'm here to find you
Reveal yourself to me
(Chorus)
As I wait, you make me strong
As I long, you draw me to your arms
You come, you come, and you fill this place
Won't you come, won't you come, and fill this place
The first verse of Petra's song Meet With Me is a call for the presence of God to be felt in the midst of his followers. The singer shows up to the "meeting place" and invites God to come and be with him. This is symbolic of the deep longing for connection that a believer can feel towards his Creator. The second line is a plea for God to reveal himself, a clear indication that the singer is seeking a deeper spiritual experience. In essence, the singer is saying "I am here, I am seeking, I am waiting."
The chorus continues the theme of longing and waiting, but also acknowledges the transformative power that comes with waiting on God. As the singer waits, he is strengthened, drawn closer to God, and filled with His presence. The final line is another plea, an invitation for God to come and fill the space with His holy presence. The song is a beautiful reminder of the intimate relationship that believers can have with God and how vital it is to come to His presence with a pure and expectant heart.

On this year i.e., 2008, we played this song in our church. The reason I say this is that my friend who suggested this song and who is also our guitarist, died on Feb.20,2022. And I suddenly remember this song and all the memories come back and all the nostalgia kicks in. Rest in peace my friend Din, I will always remember you striking your guitar while playing this song.

Good song there Petra! The song reminds me of Exodus, where God Calls Moses, to come up to Mount Sinia, to Himself. Moses went up on the Mountain to meet with the LORD,several times. In Exodus 20, the people couldn't deal with the severrity of the Presence of GOD, so they told Moses to recieve the Word, then relay it to them. Exodus 20;21, " So the (people) stood (afar) off, but Moses (drew near) the thick darkness( where) GOD was." i want to draw near, like Moses. draw near, where the Glory.
