1) Petra is a Christian Rock band formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Bill Glover, John DeGroff, and Greg Hough. "Petra" means "rock" in NT Greek, making the band name a triple pun. Rising from the Jesus music movement, and initially signed to [recordlabel]Myrrh Records[/recordlabel], they fought to gain acceptance and recognition in a church culture that at the time believed rock music to be off-limits. Over time they eventually won over most of their critics, thanks to a steady approach and some solid adult contemporary airplay hits like "The Coloring Song," outside of their usual rock fare. By the mid-80's, when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band and was replaced by John Schlitt, Petra had solidified their place as the foremost Christian rock band in the industry with a string of hit albums and singles and strong touring. The release of Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out marked a turn towards modern-sounding worship music that would soon explode into the modern worship movement.
Petra was nominated for and won numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1991, after the release of their acclaimed Beyond Belief record, Petra became the first rock band ever to win for Group of the Year at the Dove Awards. They were also the first Christian rock band to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
For three decades Petra continued to produce albums despite changes in their line-up as well as the genre and market. On May 24th, 2005 Petra announced their retirement after 33 years of ministry. They recorded one of their final performances in Franklin, Tennessee to release it as their last album, Farewell. Their last performance finished in the early hours of January 1, 2006 in Murphy, North Carolina. Bob Hartman and John Schlitt continue to tour under the moniker II Guys From Petra.

Right Place
Petra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Got no place to run, gotta look up to see the bottom
No visible support - no one there you can lean on
You're all on your own - you know it's sink or swim
There is no doubt about it, you have to look to Him
When you think you've had enough
No more you can do
Deadlineis in view
When your time is almost gone
You haven't got a clue
Now's the time to turn your face
(Chorus)
You're in the right place - trusting only Him
You're in the right place - kick back and just depend
You're in the right place - to see what He can do
You're in the right place - He will come through
(Verse 2)
When you're sinking fast - takin' water in your boat
No one to bail you out - you think it's all she wrote
The odds are against you - your chances slim to none
A hopeless situation - you got no place to run
No one has a resuce plan
Waiting in the wings
Now's the time to call His name
He can do all things
When your self-reliance fails
You still have a prayer
You will have to trust his Grace
(Repeat chorus)
I don't want to go solo
It's always better with two
I just want someone to lift me up
To pray and help me get through
(Repeat Chorus)
The song "Right Place" by Petra is an encouraging ode to the importance of relying on faith during tough times. The lyrics describe a situation where someone feels like they are sinking and have no one to lean on. They are urged to turn to God and trust only Him, kicking back and depending on His help. The words speak of an understanding that self-reliance has failed and that it’s time to call upon God's grace. The song's message is one of hope, and its words will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced difficulties in their lives.
The first verse describes a scenario where someone can't find a way out of their troubles. The second verse goes further, highlighting the importance of reaching out to God when there is no other solution. The chorus builds upon these ideas, exhorting the listener to trust in God and remember that they are in the right place for Him to come through. The song culminates with the singer lamenting their desire for a companion to help them through tough times but ends by stating that God is always there to lift them up.
