1) Petra is a Christian Rock band formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Bill Glover, John DeGroff, and Greg Hough. "Petra" means "rock" in NT Greek, making the band name a triple pun. Rising from the Jesus music movement, and initially signed to [recordlabel]Myrrh Records[/recordlabel], they fought to gain acceptance and recognition in a church culture that at the time believed rock music to be off-limits. Over time they eventually won over most of their critics, thanks to a steady approach and some solid adult contemporary airplay hits like "The Coloring Song," outside of their usual rock fare. By the mid-80's, when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band and was replaced by John Schlitt, Petra had solidified their place as the foremost Christian rock band in the industry with a string of hit albums and singles and strong touring. The release of Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out marked a turn towards modern-sounding worship music that would soon explode into the modern worship movement.
Petra was nominated for and won numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1991, after the release of their acclaimed Beyond Belief record, Petra became the first rock band ever to win for Group of the Year at the Dove Awards. They were also the first Christian rock band to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
For three decades Petra continued to produce albums despite changes in their line-up as well as the genre and market. On May 24th, 2005 Petra announced their retirement after 33 years of ministry. They recorded one of their final performances in Franklin, Tennessee to release it as their last album, Farewell. Their last performance finished in the early hours of January 1, 2006 in Murphy, North Carolina. Bob Hartman and John Schlitt continue to tour under the moniker II Guys From Petra.

Think Twice
Petra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You can think of times when you had the right chance
You could make a choice when nobody could see
You could think of ways of defending your deeds
Justify the way that you wanted to be
(Bridge)
Wait just a minute
(Chorus)
Hey, did you ever think twice
Something inside says stay away
Hey, did you ever think twice
When there's stil time you can go the other way
Hey, did you ever think twice
If you don't bother, gonna pay the price
Hey, did you ever think twice
(Verse 2)
You can think of things that you wanted to try
You can think of things that you wish you could see
You could go a way that would seem so right
Thinking of a place that you wish you could be
(Repeat Bridge)
(Repeat Chorus)
(Refrain)
Face to face with sin
You better think again, you better think again
Take another look for a second time
And give a second thought to where you draw the line
(Repeat Bridge)
(Repeat Chorus)
The lyrics of Petra's song Think Twice are a warning to listeners about the consequences of their actions. The first verse discusses the times when one has a chance to make a choice, but instead chooses to justify their actions according to their own desires. The bridge comes in as a cautionary pause before leading into the chorus that questions listeners if they have ever thought twice before making decisions. The chorus stresses the importance of considering the implications of one's decisions before it's too late. The second verse discusses the things that one wishes they could do or see, and the temptation to follow a path that seems right.
The refrain focuses on the consequences of giving in to sin and upholds the message of the song to think again or give a second thought to where one should draw the line. Overall, the song stresses the importance of being considerate, foresighted, and reflective of one's choices, and to avoid following one's desires without fully considering the consequences.

This is perhaps the best video on temptation out there. The imagery is vivid, and drives home the ugly truths while still being tasteful. So much is packed into this song.

Agreed...saw PETRA many times in
Concert (with Greg X Volz or John singing lead), but saw the band DISCIPLE
in concert last summer and was blown away (I’ve been to over 100 Christian concerts). Their message is spot-on and the music was amazing!

Kutless comes close.... they do "take me into the holy of holies".... it's awesome to come across Christian bands that counter the world... God created music for His glory, satan wrecks it by utilizing what God gave him before he fell as worship leader in heaven.... too bad... keep praying and be blessed.
