1) Petra is a Christian Rock band formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Bill Glover, John DeGroff, and Greg Hough. "Petra" means "rock" in NT Greek, making the band name a triple pun. Rising from the Jesus music movement, and initially signed to [recordlabel]Myrrh Records[/recordlabel], they fought to gain acceptance and recognition in a church culture that at the time believed rock music to be off-limits. Over time they eventually won over most of their critics, thanks to a steady approach and some solid adult contemporary airplay hits like "The Coloring Song," outside of their usual rock fare. By the mid-80's, when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band and was replaced by John Schlitt, Petra had solidified their place as the foremost Christian rock band in the industry with a string of hit albums and singles and strong touring. The release of Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out marked a turn towards modern-sounding worship music that would soon explode into the modern worship movement.
Petra was nominated for and won numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1991, after the release of their acclaimed Beyond Belief record, Petra became the first rock band ever to win for Group of the Year at the Dove Awards. They were also the first Christian rock band to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
For three decades Petra continued to produce albums despite changes in their line-up as well as the genre and market. On May 24th, 2005 Petra announced their retirement after 33 years of ministry. They recorded one of their final performances in Franklin, Tennessee to release it as their last album, Farewell. Their last performance finished in the early hours of January 1, 2006 in Murphy, North Carolina. Bob Hartman and John Schlitt continue to tour under the moniker II Guys From Petra.

Without You
Petra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes I feel like I wanna go run and hide
But then You put Your arms around me
And I feel Your sweet love surround me
Then I know just where I'm going
I tell Your sincerely You're the sweetest person I've ever know
And I love You dearly You know I'd never, never let You go
And I feel Your sweet love surround me
Then I know just where I'm going
(Chorus)
You keep my head on my shoulders
I'm well adjusted inside
You are my love, You are my only life
Without You I would surely die
And there is no other that I love as much as I love You
I wish that my brother could love You just as much as I do
'Cause when You put Your arms around me
And I feel Your sweet love surround me
Then I know just where I'm going
There is no more doubt, there's no more knowing
(Chorus)
The lyrics of Petra's song Without You speak about the emotional turmoil that the singer goes through at times. They feel like they're all mixed up inside and the only place they want to be is away from everything. However, the song takes a positive turn when the singer talks about how their feelings change when they are with their loved one, who puts their arms around the singer and shows them love. At that moment, the singer feels surrounded by sweet love and knows where they are going. The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of the singer's loved one, who keeps their head on their shoulders and provides them with a sense of stability. The singer adds that without their loved one, they would surely die.
The song is an ode to love and the transformative power it holds. The words "Then I know just where I'm going" imply that the singer finds direction and a clear path in life because of the love provided by their partner. The mention of "There is no more doubt, there's no more knowing" at the end of the song indicates that the love the singer has is so strong that there is no need for any more questioning.

Supposedly Steve Camp is one of the singers on this album. I'm guessing this is the song he contributed on, as the songs sung by Greg Volz and Bob Hartmann are fairly easy to pick out.
