Moon River
Petra Haden and Bill Frisell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you, heart breaker
Wherever you're going I'm going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There's such a lot in the world to see
We're after the same rainbows end
Moon river and me
The lyrics of "Moon River" by Petra Haden and Bill Frisell are about the journey of two drifters who are off to see the world. The singer describes the river as being "wider than a mile" and says that she is "crossing you in style someday." The use of the river as a metaphor for their journey is quite powerful as it symbolises the many twists and turns that they will encounter on their travels. The singer addresses the dream maker and heart breaker, asking him to lead the way because she will follow him wherever he goes.
The second half of the song is more personal, as the singer sings about her companion, her Huckleberry friend, with whom she is waiting for the Rainbow's end. The lyrics are simple yet dreamy and evoke a sense of longing and yearning for adventure. The reference to Huckleberry Finn adds a nostalgic touch to the song as it reminds us of the classic American novel. Overall, the song speaks of a desire to explore and seek adventure, making it a perfect song to listen to while on a road trip.
