I Will Follow Him
Petula Clark Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep me away

I must follow him
Ever since he touched my hand I knew
That near him I always must be
And nothing can keep him from me
He is my destiny

I love him, I love him, I love him
And where he goes I'll follow, forever, and ever
And side by side together, I'll be with my true love
And share a thousand sunsets together beside him

I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep, keep me away
Away from my love

I love him, I love him, I love him
And where he goes I'll follow, forever, and ever
And side by side together, I'll be with my true love
And share a thousand sunsets together beside him

I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go
There isn't an ocean too deep

A mountain so high it can keep, keep me away
Away from my love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I Will Follow Him" by Petula Clark speak about a woman who is completely devoted to her love interest. She sings that she will follow him wherever he goes, no matter if it means crossing oceans or climbing mountains. Her feelings towards him are so strong that she feels compelled to always be near him. She believes that it is her destiny to be with him and nothing can keep them apart.

The chorus repeats this idea, in which she declares her love and devotion for her beloved, emphasizing that she will follow him forever and that nothing will ever come between them. She wants to share all of the good things in life together with him, including watching sunsets side by side.

Overall, the song portrays a deep, unbreakable love that drives the singer to be by the side of her loved one no matter what. It speaks to the powerful notion of being willing to do whatever it takes to be with the one you love and the lengths some people will go to stay together.

It’s Petula Clark’s voice. I remember this version from 1963, following her success in France. She had a huge hit in Europe in the original French (“Chariot”), but it didn’t do as well in Britain, not even in the English lyric. Peggy March did a strong version, reducing these lyrics, and had a massive success in the US and around the world.

E então surge um arrastão de lembranças, em que a nostalgia impera. O tempo passa, sem que nos demos por esmagados.

At last - a nice stereo version. Thanks. The same thing happened with Matt Monro's song "The Music Played". The recording in Spanish (Alguien Canto) is in stereo while the English recording is in mono. It will be nice to hear a stereo mix of the English version.
