Suddenly There
Petula Clark Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you've climbed the highest mountain
When a cloud holds the sunshine in
Suddenly there's a valley
Where the earth knows peace with man
When a storm hides the distant rainbow
And you think you can't find a friend
Suddenly there's a valley
Where friendships never end
Touched only by the seasons
Swept clean by the waving grain
Surveyed by a happy bluebird
And kissed by the falling rain
When you think there's no bright tomorrow
And you feel you can't try again
Suddenly there's a valley
Where hope and love begin

Suddenly there's a valley
Where hope and love begin

Overall Meaning

The song "Suddenly There's a Valley" by Petula Clark is about finding hope and love even in the midst of despairing circumstances. The first stanza talks about how even when one is on top of the world, there can still be moments of darkness, but suddenly, there is a valley where man finds peace with the earth. This speaks to the idea that even when one is high and mighty, there can be challenges that bring us down to earth and force us to see the world in a different way.

The second stanza speaks about the beauty of the scene in this valley, which is touched only by the seasons, swept clean by the waving grain, surveyed by a happy bluebird and kissed by the falling rain. This imagery emphasizes the tranquility and beauty of nature and provides a sense of comfort to the listener.

The final stanza is a call to hope and love, even in the midst of struggles. It speaks to the idea that even in the darkest moments, hope and love can begin again. The song encourages listeners to keep going and to hold onto hope and love.

Overall, "Suddenly There's a Valley" is a song that speaks to the human experience of struggle and how we can find peace and hope even in the midst of adversity.

The very beautiful, and very talented singer, actress, dancer, entertainer, performer person, pianist and songwriter Petula Clark recorded this beautiful classic, positive song in 1955! This is the best version of this song ever! I love this song! It is one of my favorite songs of all time! I have always loved Petula Clark! I listen to this song when I am very happy and sometimes when I am very sad and depressed! I was born in 1978. I have heard every song that Petula Clark recorded! The other women performers who are in the same league as Petula Clark that came from the United Kingdom are Shani Wallis originally from England and Sheena Easton originally from Scotland! All three of these beautiful, wonderful people are also incredibly and wonderfully talented! Thank you for posting and sharing this beautiful recording of this beautiful song with beautiful photos of Petula Clark!
