1. Phantasm (1994-) is an award-winning quartet of viols, founded in 1994 by Laurence Dreyfus. Their repertoire is centered on 16th- and 17th-century English consort music. The quartet's numerous albums include works by composers William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, John Jenkins, William Lawes, John Ward, and others. Phantasm has won Gramophone awards for Best Baroque Instrumental Recording (1997), CD of the Year finalist (2004), and Best Early Music Recording finalist (2011), among many other awards and nominations. In 2005 Phantasm was appointed Consort-in-Residence at the University of Oxford, and in 2010 they filled the same role at Oxford's Magdalen College, collaborating with the Magdalen College Choir and director Daniel Hyde.
Based in London, Phantasm tours extensively in Europe, North America, and East Asia. Laurence Dreyfus (treble viol and director) was born in Boston, Mass.
