Fall In Love
Phantogram Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, it was enough to recognize
I was the reason you feel sick inside

Fall, in need
I'll let you bleed
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry, baby
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry
Love, it cut a hole into your eyes
You couldn't see
You were the car I crashed now you're burning alive

Fall, in need
I'll let you bleed
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry, baby
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry

Babe, the night has swallowed my soul
Could it be, that I fell apart? It shows
The lines on my face ate away my smile
Could it be that I, fell apart?

Fall, in need
I'll let you bleed
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry, baby

Fall, in need
I'll let you bleed
'Cause you were fallin', I'm sorry, baby

Fall, in need

Overall Meaning

Phantogram's song Fall in Love is a hauntingly beautiful track that explores the power dynamics in a relationship. The opening line "Love, it was enough to recognize, I was the reason you feel sick inside" sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is acknowledging that their actions have caused the other person pain and is willing to let them go if it means they'll be better off.

The lyrics "Love, it cut a hole into your eyes, you couldn't see, you were the car I crashed now you're burning alive" suggest that the singer has caused significant damage in the other person's life, leaving them feeling lost and helpless. Despite the damage, the singer is still willing to take responsibility and let the other person go if that's what's best for them.

The chorus "Fall, in need, I'll let you bleed, 'cause you were fallin', I'm sorry, baby" is a powerful statement of empathy and regret. The singer recognizes that the other person was vulnerable and they were unable to provide the support they needed. The repetition of the line "I'm sorry, baby" further emphasizes the singer's regret and willingness to take responsibility for their actions.

Overall, Fall in Love is a song that explores the complexities of love and relationships, the power dynamics at play, and the harm that can be caused when things go wrong. It's a powerful reminder that we all have a responsibility to take care of the people we love and to be accountable for our actions when we fall short.

This is honestly a fucking masterpiece. I don't even listen to this genre of music, I listen to rap. But the production (especially the electric base, choppy loops and those violin breaks), vocals and visuals that go along with it make this song so amazing and somehow powerful. I can feel each rhythm and beat, every line of lyrics... It's so unique. Such an underrated song.

edit: 3 years later still bumpin this gem
