Fall In Love
Phantogram (Lennart Richter Remix) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, it wasn't ours to recognize
To see, I was the reason you feel sick inside

Fall in me
I'll let you breathe
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I may be
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I
Love, it cut a hole into your eyes
You couldn't see you were the car I crashed
Now you're burning alive

Fall in me
I'll let you breathe
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I may be
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I

Babe, the night it swallowed my soul
Could it be that I fell apart it shows
The lines on the face ate away my smile
Could it be that I fell apart

Fall in me
I'll let you breathe
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I may be

Fall in me
I'll let you breathe
'Cause you were fallin, I'm sorry, I may be

Fall in me

Overall Meaning

The Phantogram (Lennart Richter Remix) song "Fall in Love" is a haunting yet beautiful portrayal of love and its complexities. The lyrics suggest that the love in question wasn't theirs to recognize, indicating that it may have been ill-fated from the beginning. The singer acknowledges that they were the reason their love interest feels sick inside, which could imply that their love was toxic or unhealthy in some way.

The chorus invites the love interest to fall in them and assures them that they'll be allowed to breathe. This suggests that the singer may have realized their mistakes and is willing to make amends. However, the apology in the chorus is not without reservation, as they also admit that they may have caused the love interest to fall in the first place.

The last verse of the song reveals the singer's own struggles with love, as they admit that the night swallowed their soul and that they fell apart, evidenced by the lines on their face eating away at their smile. This could indicate that they have been hurt before, and that their own issues with love have contributed to the issues in their current relationship.

This is honestly a fucking masterpiece. I don't even listen to this genre of music, I listen to rap. But the production (especially the electric base, choppy loops and those violin breaks), vocals and visuals that go along with it make this song so amazing and somehow powerful. I can feel each rhythm and beat, every line of lyrics... It's so unique. Such an underrated song.

edit: 3 years later still bumpin this gem
