Out Of Control
Phantom Blue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out in the distance
Outside my door
Seems like the world is burning
Out of control, don't cha know
First they try to teach me
To play their games
If I live by their rules I know I'd
Surely go insane
This world's to blame

So we've got to find a way
Look deep in our minds
How can the world go on
Blind leading blind?

[Chorus]
Out of control
This can't go on these games we're playing
Out of control
What can be done?
This world is out of control

Systems failing
Breaking down in time
Looks like we're really not such
Clever minds, no not my kind
Feel it coming deep in the night

The life I'm living could fill me
Fill me with fright

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Phantom Blue's song Out of Control describe the singer's observation of the chaos and disorder happening outside their doorstep. They see the world burning, seeming to be out of control, and as they try to learn the rules and games of society, the singer realizes how absurd and convoluted things are becoming. The culprit of this disorder is the world itself, and we need to search deep within ourselves to find a solution.

The singer suggests that we need to find a way to change the world and stop playing these games that only lead to more chaos. They see the systems failing, and people blindly following others without thinking for themselves, suggesting that we've become less intelligent and thoughtful as a species. Through these lyrics, the band expresses that the world is out of control and needs to be steered back in a positive direction, rather than continuing to spiral into disaster.

Nicole Couch wasn't exactly a slouch either (she also wrote the song, as she did most of Phantom Blues debut album).

Back when I was growing up and this was coming out, it wasn't too cool to say you liked bands like this and Warlock and Vixen, etc. An all woman band? Novelty act? (never!) But once a couple of people gave it a chance, they admitted these women were carrying on the spirit of metal even as other bands were falling apart & the media and false fans started giving up on metal. So stoked these songs are on youtube for people to find. (you know, since there's no such thing as record stores anymore.)
