Finally noticed I had left you behind
This heart of mine never beat on time
This heart of mine keeps me up at night
This heart of mine lost the fight
You could say I never gave you a glance
When you left you never gave me a chance
This heart of mine keeps me up at night
This heart of mine lost the fight
Girl, I'm sorry I was wrong
I was lost when you were gone
You came back and turned me on
Now we're right where we belong
Girl, I'm sorry I was wrong
I was lost when you were gone
You came back and turned me on
We are right where we belong
We are right where we belong
The lyrics of Phantom Planet's song "This Heart Of Mine" is a confession of regret and a love letter to a former lover who the singer had neglected in the past. The opening verse indicates that the singer has a lot of heavy thoughts, but he has finally realized that he had abandoned the one he loved in the past. He admits that his heart was never synchronized, and it always kept him awake at night. The repetition of "this heart of mine" in the verse and throughout the song emphasizes the core theme of the song, which is a plea for forgiveness.
In the second verse, the singer admits that he never paid attention to his lover's feelings, and when she left, he never had a chance to make things right. His heart remained disconnected, and he lost the battle of love. The chorus follows the same lyrics as the first verse, emphasizing the point of the singer's troubled heart.
In the final verse, the singer apologizes for his mistakes and admits that he was lost without his lover. Her return has rekindled the flame, and they are now where they belong. The repetition of "girl, I'm sorry I was wrong" in the final parts of the song highlights the singer's remorse and desire to make amends.
Overall, "This Heart Of Mine" is a refreshingly sincere and honest love song that acknowledges faults and regrets while celebrating love's ability to revive and conquer all.
