Invisible T
Phil Collins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I've been waiting, waiting here so long
But thinking nothing, nothing could go wrong, but now I know
She has a built in ability
To take everything she sees
And now it seems I'm falling, falling for her.

She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
She reaches in, grabs right hold of your heart
She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
It takes control and slowly tears you apart.

I don't really know her, I only know her name
But she crawls under your skin, you're never quite the same, and now I know
She's got something you just can't trust
It's something mysterious
And now it seems I'm falling, falling for her.

She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
She reaches in, grabs right hold of your heart
She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
It takes control and slowly tears you apart.

She don't like losing, to her it's still a game
Though she'll mess up your life, you'll want her just the same, now I know
She has a built in ability
To take everything she sees
And now it seems I've fallen, fallen for her.

She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
She reaches in, grabs right hold of your heart

She seems to have an invisible touch yeah
It takes control and slowly tears you apart.

Overall Meaning

The song "Invisible Touch" by Phil Collins is about a mysterious woman who has an inexplicable hold on the singer. The lyrics suggest that he has been waiting for this woman for a long time and while he thought nothing could go wrong, the woman's magnetic pull has left him falling for her. The singer suggests that this woman has some sort of "built-in ability" to attract and control people, tearing their hearts apart invisibly. The lyrics also reveal that the singer does not know this woman well, but she has managed to crawl under his skin and change him.

The chorus repeats the phrase "She seems to have an invisible touch," further emphasizing the idea that this woman has a mysterious power over the people she encounters. This woman's tendency to treat everything like a game and not like something of great importance is also revealed in the lyrics, but despite this, the singer seems to still want her, even if she messes up his life. The song suggests that the power and mystery of love is something that can take control of our hearts and change us in unexpected ways.

@nbuehster

Since this song is almost 40 years old, I'm imagining a longer ending, with a new verse, and a new chorus.

The first line would be "Now she's in her eighties"

After that:

She had a built-in ability
To take everything she sees
???

She used to have an invisible touch, yeah
She reaches in and grabs right hold of your heart (Not sure what this would be replaced with.)
She used to have an invisible touch, yeah
It takes control and slowly tears you apart (Not sure what this would be replaced with.)

This is the 1st album to have electronic drums on an album. Genesis were way ahead of their time. Phil Collin’s is a genius he is a true artist and a legend.

@nbuehster

You mean electronic drums, as in electronic drum kits, because there were a lot of albums before this with electronic drums, including his own albums.
