Phil’s path toward a country music career began in a childhood molded by two equally strong influences. The first was the ministry, which had shaped both sides of his family for generations. The other was music. Phil grew up singing in church and later became a member of the prestigious Lee Singers.
Intending to pursue a career in music after graduating from college, Phil was compelled to join the Navy after the attacks of September 11.
While stationed in Jacksonville, FL as lead singer of the Navy Band Southeast, he performed music by Garth Brooks, George Strait, Tim McGraw, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and James Taylor, a rounding out of tastes that served him well when he finally hit Idol. Then, with Country Week, it all came full circle. "Randy said, 'Dude, you're gonna have a big career in country,' and that was the night even Simon agreed," he says. "And I was thinking, 'Thank God, because this is me. I'm finally getting to do something I love to do.'"
After the 55-city Idol tour wrapped in September 2007, Phil immediately re-enlisted in the Naval Reserves. He moved his family to Nashville, signed with Lyric Street Records, and began recording his debut album with producer Wayne Kirkpatrick.
The music they’ve recorded will give listeners a look at a man who comes into his own with a hard-won maturity and self-knowledge. "I feel my job as a singer," he says, "is part of my job as a human being. I'm supposed to be touching other people's lives, doing the best I can to be a positive force in the world."
Still Going Through

What went wrong the other night
When you called me
Oh, why did you call me
To talk about the good old days
And take a walk down memory lane
Catch up on life
Oh, since the day we died
As for me, I'm still going through
[Chorus]
Every kiss, nights like this
The way you looked in the light
Of that lonely moon
Looking down on us from that
Southern sky
Every word that fell from your lips
Baby, I miss everything
And I have no clue how you got over
What I'm still going through
What more could you have to say
You said it all when you walked away
And just left me here
Yeah, you made it clear
I don't know what I'm doing wrong
I don't know why I can't move on
And just let this go
Girl, would you let me know
What it is I have to do
To keep from going through
[Chorus]
The bright light at the end of
The tunnel
Sure is fading fast
'Cause I just can't get past
Every kiss, nights like this
The way you looked in the light
Of that lonely moon
Looking down on us from that
Southern sky
Every word and every kiss,
Nights like this
The way you looked in the light
Of that lonely moon
Looking down on us from that
Southern sky
Every word that fell from your lips
Baby, I miss everything
And I have no clue how you got over
I have no clue how you got over
What I'm still going through
What I'm still going through
The song "Still Going Through" by Phil Stacey is a heart-wrenching ballad about a person who is struggling to move on from a past relationship. The song begins with the singer wondering what happened to "Mr. Right" and what went wrong the other night when the person he or she is singing about called to talk about the good old days and catch up on life. The singer admits that he or she is "still going through" the pain of the breakup, while the other person seems to have moved on.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Every kiss, nights like this, the way you looked in the light" as the singer remembers all the happy memories and experiences that were shared with the other person. Despite the pain of these memories, the singer confesses that he or she has no clue how the other person was able to get over the relationship while he or she is still struggling to move on.
The second verse continues in the same vein as the first, with the singer expressing his or her confusion and frustration at not being able to let go of the past. The song ends with the singer admitting that the "bright light at the end of the tunnel" is fading fast and that he or she just can't seem to get past the pain of the breakup.
Overall, "Still Going Through" is a raw and emotional song that will resonate with anyone who has struggled to move on after a painful breakup.
