What a privilege, to have seen this live. After two initial soporific, irritating hours of boredom, I broke through--grace, not willed--ditched any search for meaning, and grinned like an idiot, letting the experience flow over and delight me. This piece was at the heart of the delight stage. Einstein grows more inside of me now each day. One cosmic trick, that one.

A friend of mine showed me this in our highschool philosophy club (that days topic was defining music), and it was so curious, because she didnt preface it at all. I found my self instinctively trying to tap my fingers to the beat, but found that that was impossible lol. That day kind of made me realize exactly what music is, and this is a prime example of how music should challenge what we concieve as real and normal, really exceptional.

I first heard this in 1984 on a tape of a radio show David Bowie did in the 70s called 'I am a DJ' This was among his chosen music pieces - he has such eclectic and fantastic tastes and it got me into leftfield music and film from then on. Thanks for uploading this.

Absolutely compelling. Thank you for uploading this.

Mixing 4/4 6/8 5/8 3/4 and 7/8 meters in the same song is punishable by 20 years in federal prison

@Lighthazzles remember this BBC radio programme- sometime in 1979? Bowie suggested if we didn't like it we went off to the kitchen & made an omelette instead. The part beginning 12:05 literally knocked me off my feet- I'd never heard anything quite like this before. With only a snatch of it on a C30 cassette, I wrote to the BBC asking what it was, but it took me 4 years to find the album. If I remember correctly, FZ and Sparks also took part in this radio series

@RufusT9 - Yes, all that experimental post-punk stuff from the late 70s has dated very well and still sound fresh and wierd. Glad I can now listen to this on a non-perishable format. The music conjures up all sorts of visuals in the air for me - numbers, keyboards, tape-loops, studios and just sheer indulgent creativity. It's a bit like old stlye Electro - the old stuff just sounds much better and hands on and than all this 'convenient' stuff now.

Listen to this wearing headphones and see what shifts from the left speaker to the right speaker.

I hope I haven't been avoiding the beach (it's been a long time).

Any idea what the chords are at 12:05? I absolutely love them and have been trying to figure them out.
