Armistice
PhoenixȀ Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Go on mister, get well
Daddy wasn't thinking that you're no good
Don't worry 'cause you're not the kind to kiss and tell
Dally and cherry trees
I don't recall them anyway
So long as no one here is gonna wear out
To which isn't the same
When the lights are coming out
And I come down in your room
Our daily compromise, it is
Written in your signed armistice
And when the lights are coming out
And I come down in your room
Well well the sign is always
Here is your signed armistice
It's time to fall, oh, not to heat it up
The question is plain as a propeller
In the middle of the course
When ambitions are low
Head on close, hang on before you lose control
We ought to go
And look how to rip it off
December for message on the lips
Some love is, no, it ain't gonna wear out
To which is all the same
One of us is wasted
When the lights are coming out
And I come down in your room
Our daily compromise, it is
Written in your signed armistice
And when the lights are coming out
And I come down in your room
Well well the sign is always
Here is your signed armistice
Fallin' out, he's in a rush, fallin' out, he's goin in, fallin out, he's in a rush
Keep your promises
Fallin' out, he's in a rush, fallin' out, he's goin in, fallin out he's in a rush
Fallin' out he's always,
Fallin' out, he's in a rush
Keep your promises
Fallin' out, he's in a rush,
Fallin' out, he's always
The lyrics of "Armistice" by Phoenix are quite abstract but could be interpreted as a reflection on relationships and human nature. The opening lines "Dally used to come from me, go on mister, get well, daddy wasn't thinking that you're no good" suggest a sense of detachment and disapproval towards someone's actions. It could be referring to a past relationship or a friend who has made poor choices. The subsequent lines "don't worry 'cause you're not the kind to kiss and tell, dally and cherry trees, I don't recall them anyway" could imply a disregard for the past and a preference to move on, regardless of the memories associated with it.
The chorus "When the lights are coming out and I come down in your room, our daily compromise, it is written in your signed armistice" could signify two people coming together and finding a way to compromise, possibly after going through a rough patch. The use of the word "armistice" suggests a temporary truce or agreement, indicating that while things might be okay for now, it might not last. The song then goes on to suggest that it's important to keep one's promises and not fall back into old patterns.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
Lest we forget
The treaty of Versailles was indeed harsh. To quote General Foch: "This is not a peace. It is an armistice for twenty years"...he was out by 65 days.
Thanks so much for making this video!

On this day, November 11th, 2018 at 11:00 AM, marks the 100th year of the end of World War 1. A war sparked by Extremist Serbian nationalists assassinating the Austrian-Hungarian archduke Franz Ferdinand and his pregnant wife, Sophia. At first, many people believed this war would be over before Christmas 1914, but little did they know this war would last for 4 years, costing lives of millions of men, women, and children, and nations across the world.
Nations like Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and the Russian monarchy fell from the results of the Great War. Whether it was from revolutionists who would create the soviet union, or battle proven soldiers from the Gallipoli campaign. Some men use the anger and hatred from their people’s poverty and aftermath of the Great War, to create a facist power that caused atrocities that people will never forget, or never forgive to this day.
Even though the brave soldiers who fought in the trenches and no man’s land, to the nurses who treated the wounded, to the civilians back home hoping to see their fathers, their sons, or their brothers come back alive, and to the leaders who started and ended this war are long gone, and this war is sometimes forgotten by the people of today, this war has left scars, in the earth, in nations around the world, and history.
We must not forget this war occurred, the last time people forgot, it created another war with more casualties, more atrocities, and giving man the atomic bomb, and if we forget, another war could start, and one in which humanity will never survive, or recover from.
They said that this was the war to end all war, but it was instead, the War that changed the world forever.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Edit: the last Canadian who died in this war charged a German machine gun when he was shot by a sniper. Two minutes later the war was over. Lest we forget

Someone has probably already said this, but the same train carriage the armistice was signed in was used by Hitler again when he made France surrender in WW2. He then burnt it down.
