Phoenix Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Headline from this day on
Why you keep pretending that you wanna let go?
Do do you wanna let go?
Loud volume turn to low low low low low low

What you want and what you do to me
I'll take the trouble that you have in mind
Entertainment
Show them what you do with me
When everyone here knows better
What I once refused to be
Is everything they long together
I'd rather be alone

I love, I love, I love, I notice
I heard it all before I died
Before I knew you
Once upon a time would take too long, long, long, long, long, long

What you want and what you do to me
I'll take the trouble that you have in my mind

Entertainment
Show them what you do with me
When everyone here knows better
What I once refused to be
Is everything they long together

I'd rather be alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Phoenix's song "Entertainment" seem to explore the complexities of relationships and the allure of staying in one that may not be the best for us. The opening line, "Headline from this day on," sets the tone for the rest of the song as it seems to suggest that the actions of the singer are being closely watched and analyzed by others. The following line, "Why you keep pretending that you wanna let go?" is directed towards someone who is in a seemingly toxic relationship but is not ready to let go, despite the negative impact on both parties. The repetition of "Do you wanna let go?" could be interpreted as an attempt to encourage the person to move on.

The chorus of the song, "Entertainment, show them what you do with me," suggests that the singer is aware that their relationship is not healthy, but they are choosing to stay in it anyway because it provides some sort of entertainment value or distraction from reality. The line "What I once refused to be is everything they long together" could be interpreted as the singer attempting to distance themselves from the situation by rejecting the idea that they are a part of it. The final line, "I'd rather be alone," is a powerful statement of self-awareness and self-care, suggesting that the singer has realized that their relationship is not worth the emotional toll it is taking on them.

Overall, "Entertainment" offers a commentary on the blurred lines between love and entertainment, and how sometimes we choose to stay in relationships that may not be best for us because they provide some sort of temporary distraction or amusement.

@DesleagueofCommoners

For those who didn't understand, this world is not yours to conquer, oh, wrong show. Anyway, I’ll explain the clip, from my point of view.
The clip depicts entertainment, and how people's lives shape around it. Whether talking about war, fun, history, or how people come together to entertain themselves.
The question is, "what to talk about entertainment and people?". Both really have a relationship, since the beginning, entertainment has a relationship with humans, as clouds have with the sea, producing rain, producing lakes, ponds, puddles of water.
And what to say, exactly about this relationship. I would point out that in the past, it was said, "this one was born to be a teacher", now it is said, "this one was born to be an actor, singer, poet", professions debated about its relevance, but that is the point, the degree of importance of entertainment.
The entertainment was created, the primary needs were to copulate, eat, make physiological needs, sleep, among other things, the most important, but with the entertainment, the importance of things and people, it has a different proportion.
One famous person is more famous than another, a certain profession is more sought after than another, a certain place is more visited than another. People do things to entertain themselves and arrest others to achieve that goal.
SUMMARY OF OPERA: Humanity has made entertainment its own vassal. Adapting with the fashions, trends, to fit in some society. Forgetting about living individually, following moral rules, it is necessary.
And how to get rid of the entertainment, [a prison they believe they never have to leave], don't get stuck in one program, or channel, or group. Have times alone (in old age or at some time or place, you will be alone)
Don't just read books, don't just play, don't watch movies only, don't just watch series, don't just be in fashion.
If you want to know if there are people in the entertainment, listen to Bruce Lee, be like water, always on the move, if you want to see life outside of entertainment, be like the air, invisible and wise.
Be like the earth, made by God, be strong, and separate from fire, which destroys nature, (but the element is used in many areas, I mean subliminally, bad people are like uncontrolled fire) And to end this long excerpt

""God is beyond the stars" and I want to understand the world, and I rather be alone

Its central theme is romantic with two people finding each other across the ages amidst conflict with antagonists." Wikipedia

@SleepyGobby

This is the best KDrama I've ever seen

@SuyogIkhankar22

which movie this song is taken in?

@JMPERager

I think she meant the MV, not an actual movie. This song is, however, in a movie called Now You See Me.

@SleepyGobby

+Suyog Ikhankar I meant it as a joke, because the video has a lot of Korean in it and it's very dramatic and has a lot of KDrama-like themes in it
