TI AMO
Phoenix Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Do you mind if I do?
I know I can be honest with you '
Cause I don't like it as it is
I don't like it as it is
A disaster scenario
So don't look at what you did
This melted Gelato
Je t'aime! ¡Te quiero!
It's not love but wait
I'll be standing by the jukebox
Champagne or Prosecco?
I was playing classics by the Buzzcocks
Battiato and Lucio
Love you! Ti amo!
Je t'aime! ¡Te quiero
Open up your legs
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
I'll say Ti amo till we get along
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
I'll say Ti amo till we get along
You don't mind it as it is
Bonanza, che bello!
Well I'll show you how to win
My festival di Sanremo
Love you! Ti amo!
Je t'aime! ¡Te quiero!
It's not over yet
Now I'm looking like the bad cop
Sunbathing in Rio
Switching unsophisticated soft rock
To Beethoven's Concerto
Love you! Ti amo!
Je t'aime! ¡Te quiero!
Open up your legs
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
I'll say Ti amo till we get along
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no no
Don't tell me, don't tell me no
I'll say Ti amo till we get along
Ça y est c'est fini
Je veux croire que le meilleur est à venir
Je sais que le pire l'est aussi
Alors laisse-moi compter les moutons Chanter nos chansons, rêver à l'unisson
The song Ti Amo by Phoenix starts off with the singer asking for permission to be honest with the listener as they don't like the current state of their relationship, referring to it as a "disaster scenario." However, the flow of the song contrasts the negative tone of the lyrics, with upbeat music and poppy vocals. The chorus switches between three languages, Italian ("Ti amo"), French ("Je t'aime") and Spanish ("¡Te quiero!"), all meaning "I love you," but the song clarifies that it's not quite love, at least not yet.
The second verse has the singer imagining a possible future with the person they're addressing. They suggest sharing a drink at a jukebox, referencing classic and modern music from different cultures as they start to develop shared interests. The chorus still repeats the same tri-lingual I-love-you message, with an increasing sense of urgency. The bridge has the singer switching from Italian to French, then to Spanish, and finally to French again, finishing with an assurance that they will get along while emphasizing the importance of positive thinking.
Overall, Ti Amo is a lighthearted, flirtatious song with playful lyrics about the early stages of a new relationship. Despite the warnings of possible future problems, the singer expresses a desire to work through them and improve the relationship.

Being italian and listening to this album for 4 years is on another level! Love their vibes, very close to the 80s italian aesthetic. see you in milan!
@loupneige
Kept listening to this album when it came out, during spring/summer 2017, skin burnt by the sun and heart broken by another heart. Going back to it 4 years later gives me goosebumps. Incredible memories and nostalgia, certainly because it is an album where passion and romance are propelled to their climax.
PS : For those who don't speak French, the spoken words at the end of the song are :
That's it, it's over now.
I want to believe that the best is yet to come.
I know the worst is too.
So please let me count the sheeps, sing our songs, dream in unison.

Thank you!

I’ve been in love with this album since it came out! And, as a 17 year old Italian, I feel so nostalgic for this era that I unfortunately did not live, it looks exactly like my daydreams
