Evil
Phox Lyrics

Face deep in between my best friend's knees
Telling me that you don't want to hurt me
And I just can't believe that any word
Falling off your plain lip isn't unclean

Face deep in between my best friend's knees
Telling me that you don't want to hurt me, no
And I just can't believe that any word
Falling off your plain lip isn't unclean

Well I, I know that evil will find its own demise
Find its own demise

And you're there, children crawling through your hair
Telling me that you don't want to hurt me, no
And you can spew all the bad things that've happened to you
Make it all feel more human, I see

Well I, I know that evil will find its own demise

I am sorry that you aren't really lovely
I'll find peace when I, I know
I know that evil will find its own demise

And I, I know, I know
That evil will find its own

Overall Meaning

In PHOX's song Evil, the lyrics talk about a complicated relationship where the persona is in a situation with someone they care for and trust, but they are also involved with their best friend. The persona is being told that they are loved while in a sexual act with their friend, and they are struggling to believe that the words being said are true. They feel like anything this person says can't be trusted and that everything they are saying could be a lie or tainted with unclean intentions.

The chorus of the song is about how evil will ultimately bring consequences onto itself. The persona knows that the actions being taken by both themselves and the other person will result in negative repercussions eventually. They also seem to suggest that the other person has had a difficult past and is trying to make it feel more human by relating it to the persona.

At the end of the song, the persona seems to come to terms with the situation and apologizes for being involved with the other person, acknowledging that they aren't truly lovely. They find peace in knowing that evil will come to its own demise eventually.

Overall, the lyrics of Evil explore themes of trust, betrayal, and finding peace within oneself. The song is complex in its storytelling and provides a thought-provoking exploration of difficult relationships and inner turmoil.

This is where i want to leave a profound, deep comment.... but PHOX leaves me speechless no matter how many hundred times I've listened to their songs.  They are simply AMAZING

@mommasconsin

I have yet to hear anyone out there making this kind of melodic perfection!  Perfectly balanced, well composed, unpredictable work of genius!

@samplautz5586

I grew up with these people, sorta. I'm from Baraboo WI, where they are from. My siblings were good friends with them in highschool. The singer is the sister of my sister's best friend. I can't believe they made it this far. So happy for them

@BenWoodardCoyote

First of all Phox is great and this song is one of their best. I have the album but honestly, I think that this audiotree recording is actually better than the album.

@NoahSturis

+Ben Woodard I agree completely. Part of it is that they have added extra flourishes to the songs them selves that are really good, secondly this is a fantastic mix - especially the drums have such a spatial dimension. It's also exciting that they're still getting better, look forward to what they'll come out with next!

@MrOuchiez

Without question a better take of this tune! I actually heard this cut first and was disappointed by the album version (not that its bad), as this has so much more of a dynamic feel.

@camann33

8 years later, I'm still in love the this song; this performance of this song. Flipping the wallet off the snare at 2:10, vocals all the way through, but highlighted starting at 2:31 through to where it gets even better starting at 3:09. WOW! Then the low toned marching drum exit. Just perfect.

@adamtinkoff

OMG - the song opens up around 3:30 and made my eyes tear up.

I saw this awesome band warming up for the Lumineers at the iTunes festival a few years ago and I've loved them ever since! They are brilliantly talented and have amazing songs! This song definitely spreads the message that we all need to hear and believe in light of recent events, evil will not prevail 💪🏼

@jonathantaylor7458

THIS IS SO PLEASENT
