THIS WAS AND STILL IS THE JAM!!! This version will forever be my favorite. You can hear the light strings of the orchestra, and the pure vocals of Christine - where she is not screaming to get her point across. When you can sing a song that has lyrical content that would not embarrass your parents or children if they were listening, you know gone are the days of making great music like this. Less is more, every time. Children of today will never know just how great our music was...sad but true

There are so many songs Larry Levan influenced me to play as a DJ, However this song stands alone among so many memories. I was there when the crowd gave Larry a standing ovation when this song was played and worked to the end. Paradise Garage and Larry will live forever in our memories.

I used to loose my mind on the dance floor when Larry would play this. Damn, those were the days. When the night life in NYC was good and fun. It seems as though the club scene here in NY is not what is used to be. Glad I was around to enjoy it.

The song "Weekend" was originally recorded on Atlantic Records by Patrick Adams' studio group Phreek which Wilshire was once a member.[2][3] The song was heavily played by Larry Levan yet it was commercially unavailable therefore it did not enter any charts.[4] In the early 1980s, William Socolov, the co-owner of Sleeping Bag Records, invited Levan to make a new version of "Weekend". It became more successful than its original version, peaking at number 54

@@loosestudios Even Larry RIP would tell you that this version was his fave. Not just because I mixed but because I was there..I saw. I felt...I saw what other's felt...Brian Chin's quote "Weekend" and "Relight My Fire" were the biggest peak records of that era" ....oh there we others depending on who your crowd was but here we are some 40years later...So as far as success, since I worked it (Wikpedia shouldn't be your source of info)..Yes it was not commercially released and my promo allotment was very small..it became a classic and Vinyl Mania in NYC was selling them for $125 at one time...lol....DJ Tommy Musto also did a mix on it for a compilation release of Atlantic remixed classic dance tracks...Todd Terry also did one as well....Ask those guys what they think and they'll tell you it wasn't Class Action.

Of 87), I'm from NJ and used to hear people talk about both clubs but was at the time addicted to Zanzibar, plus i was just starting to really hang hang LOL. Yes, everyone knew that when Larry threw this on at the 3 minute mark or so of the song that it was getting ready to Go Down!. The way he would separate the voices, bells, piano and then drop that Bass Laaawwwd!!! We would literally be flying, the more we flew, the more he worked it right down to the last piano stroke.. Many nights he would let it play out to the end to a "Standing Ovation".. True Story...

This song is FABULOUS, but when I think how it used to sound at Garucci's, with Larry breaking it down just as you said, and on that incomparable sound system, (and with that added oomph from the tab of acid taken earlier!) OMFG. And then when it was all over, the silence, in which we clapped and shouted and vowed our undying allegiance to the High Priest of Dance...sigh. 84 King Forever.

A true mountain moving tune....LARRY dug a hole in the floor with this trax....get the baby powder for the following weekend...this version holds just as much substance as the remake IMO.... both are dance classics. I have been looking for this song for weeks, if not, for years. The last time I ever heard this song is probably back in early 2006, when Joe Causing playing on WKTU-FM here in NYC. The only problem that either I never knew or forgot who is playing is the group,Phreek.
On the personal note, this is the 40th Anniversary of this 1978-79 dancing disco song. So it really kinda reminded me of my childhood, only I was still a little toddler when I heard this radio, or was watching the late Dick Clark's classic American Bandstand on ABC. Also, Soul Train, which is on WPIX 11-Alive/Channel 11( subsequent nowadays CW-11), ABC's Weekend Special after the Saturday Morning Cartoons, and all the perks, the works, everything.
That's when I was technically supposed to be playing with my toys, and listen to my alphabet music, at my toddler age. Ughhhhh,oh well , that brings back memories, I remembered and enjoy this beautiful disco song, and I appreciated this.
And you young millennials, you and I need to have a little sit-down meeting about this song. So you better be taking notice.

Yes this was the one at 7:00 AM David would put this on, on a Saturday morning and Donald would put this on, on a Sunday morning down in Catacomb's and we would loose it. I can remember I would be calling myself walking around thinking I should go home. I would be back on the dance floor. Whew those were the days.

@@henryc1006 Oh no Henry, i never made it to the Garage until the earilest 5:30 a.m., at 7 was when the real drugs would kick in and this song would come on. Would leave Sunday afternoon when the place would close find my shades and then head over to the Ice Place for the afternoon tea dance. lol
