Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Piano Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream,
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
High above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream,
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
High above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Overall Meaning

The song "Over the Rainbow" is a classic that takes the listener on a journey of hope and imagination. The lyrics use the metaphor of a rainbow to symbolize a better place, a place where the dreams we have always wished for come true. The singer describes this place as somewhere “way up high” that they have heard of once in a lullaby. The song goes on to say that in this magical place, the skies are blue, and the dreams you dare to dream come true. The lyrics suggest that this place is a utopia, where there is no sorrow, no pain, and no troubles.

The second verse of "Over the Rainbow" continues with the same theme of hope and imagination. The singer says that someday they will wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind them. In this place, the troubles of life melt away like lemon drops. This is a beautiful image that is evocative of a perfect world. The lyrics describe this place as high above the chimney tops, which suggests that this utopia is a place removed from the mundane world we know.

The final verse of the song returns to the theme of the bluebirds. The singer asks why they cannot fly beyond the rainbow to this magical place. The lyrics suggest that the bluebirds represent a symbol of happiness and freedom, and the fact that they can fly beyond the rainbow but the singer cannot is a symbol of the obstacles that the singer faces in their quest for happiness. The overall message of the song is one of hope and optimism, urging the listener to keep dreaming and working towards a better life.

Hey guys look at this: Jesus doesn’t only reference hell, he describes it in great detail. He says it is a place of eternal torment (Luke 16:23), of unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), JESUS ISNT THERE TO CONDEMN YOU BUT TO SAVE YOU FROM DAMNATION ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AND GAIN ETERNAL LIFE GOD SEND HIS SON JESUS CHRIST TO DIE FOR YOUR SINS, IF YOU BELIEVE JESUS CHRIST ,ACCEPT HIM AND GET SAVED FROM HELL AND GAIN ETERNAL LIFE ....
