Grandmother
Pidgeon Rebecca Lyrics

Well, well I'm young
I'm a young girl
Well I mean
I'm a young woman
And then I guess
I'll just be a woman
Not too young
Not too old
Just right
Right in the middle
Just about right in the middle

And then well
Well I guess
I'll get a little older
God willing
Guess I'll just get
A wee bit older
And then I'll be, yes that's right
An older woman
Mmm Hmm
And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing

Cos then well,
Well I guess
Nothin' for it
I'm gonna be
If God wills it
Yes that's right
An old woman
An old old woman
And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing

But you'll still say
I'm beautiful
I'll still be beautiful inside
And lovely to you huh Baby?
Lovely to you huh Baby?

And I'll say to them young 'uns
Hey kids!
Kids!
Gather round
Gather round me now

When your grandfather and I were young...

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing

Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall
And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing
Oh, mother mother, hear me father, catch me when I fall

And as the years roll on and on and on
I'll keep on getting older God willing

Overall Meaning

In Pidgeon Rebecca's song "Grandmother," the singer contemplates the passage of time and the different stages of a woman's life. She starts by acknowledging that she is young, but eventually, she will become a woman, and then an older woman. She accepts that she will keep getting older as time goes by, and that eventually she will become an old woman. Despite the physical changes that come with aging, she believes that she will still be beautiful on the inside, and that her loved ones will see her that way.

The song is a reflection on the inevitability of aging and the wisdom that comes with it. The singer looks forward to the day when she can share her life experience with younger generations, telling them stories about her youth and imparting valuable lessons. She also acknowledges the importance of family and asks for their support and guidance as she grows older.

Overall, "Grandmother" is a poignant and introspective look at the journey of life and the importance of family and community in navigating it.

I'm a total newbie to Rebecca Pidgeon and I'm so happy I discovered her music. Wow! Like many others I've gone and ordered the vinyl.

This brings tears to my eyes - now that I am a grandmother! Maybe Rebecca is one too? Unbelievable song and presentation. Just to let you know, Rebecca, my husband has been in love with you ever since "State and Main". I am fine with it, I can see why....

This is just extraordinary ! Thrilled to have found it.

This is a remarkable album from a remarkable record company. It is one of the best for music and sound quality. I own it on CD, SACD and LP, and I bought a 2nd SACD of it as a gift for a friend. Highly recommended.

Gigi D'Amico

I'm not a big fan of the S sounding in this recording

Bob Lehman

@Gigi D'Amico The sounds of her breathing, the sounds of the ending of letters like "d" and the sibilants like "s", and the overall intimacy of her voice on the entire album suggest that they used close mic'ing for her (and her guitar) (as well as, probably, spaced omnis for the overall sound stage space). But there are few if any who do it better than Chesky, in my opinion. Check out their recordings of Portuguese vocalist Ana Caram. I have no idea what she's singing, but I absolutely love the way that she sings it!

Gigi D'Amico

@Bob Lehman I just listened to Ana Caram and still then sibilant is not for me

Heard this ages ago, still a beautiful recording and song. Listening on my Stereolith Monitor 232 Audiophile, just incredible 3D spacial sound
