He spent a long part of his childhood in the café which his parents owned, where he learned work jargon and slang. At the age of 14 he signed up to the conservatoire de musique de Toulouse and to a dramatic arts institute. In the mean time, he set up his first band of 4 musicians in his own name, with whom he played at events throughout the region. In 1957, he was snapped up by Eddie Barclay who signed him on. It was in the studio of Barclay where he met his future wife, Simone Mazaltarim.
In 1958 Perret carried on touring round Parisian cabaret bars and crossed France and Africa as a part of the American group, The Platters. In Novemeber that year, a pleurisy forced him to take two years off in a sanatorium.
A master of the subtleties of the French language and French slang (he even rewrote some of Jean de La Fontaine's fables), his songs are often cheeky (for example Le zizi (The willy)) , asking questions in a seemingly naive child's tone, but has written more serious political songs, such as La bête est revenue, La petite kurde, Vert de Colère ou Lily.
La jeune fille

Elle a des veines vertes
Aux poignets
Dans ses manches ouvertes
On ne sait pas pourquoi
Elle rit
Par moment
Elle crie
Elle est grande
Elle est blanche
Elle a des bras très doux
Elle est très droite
Et penche le cou
On dirait quelquefois
Qu'elle comprend des choses
Pas toujours
Elle cause tout bas
Oh ma chère, oh la la!
Figure-toi que mardi
Je l'ai vu, j'ai ri
Elle dit comme ça
Elle est grande
Elle est blanche
Elle a des bras très doux
Elle est très droite
Et penche le cou
La jeune fille est blanche
Elle a des veines vertes
Aux poignets
Dans ses manches ouvertes
Quand un jeune homme souffre
D'abord elle se tait
Et elle ne rit plus
Toute étonnée
Elle est grande
Elle est blanche
Elle a des bras très doux
Elle est très droite
Et penche le cou
Dans les petits chemins
Elle remplit ses mains
De piquants, de bruyères
De fougères
Est-ce que la belle se doute
Qu'elle vous prend le cœur
En cueillant sur la route
Des fleurs?
Elle est grande
Elle est blanche
Elle a des bras très doux
Elle est très droite
Et penche le cou
Elle est grande
Elle est blanche
Elle a des bras très doux
Elle est très droite
Et penche le cou
In Pierre Perret's song "La jeune fille" (The Young Girl), the lyrics describe the physical appearance of a young girl, who is tall and white with green veins on her wrists. Her demeanor is described as both lighthearted and intense; she is prone to fits of laughter and screams, and speaks softly at times. The girl possesses a certain level of understanding and knowledge about things that is not always obvious, and she is known to collect various plants and foliage along the small paths she follows. When a young man around her is hurt, she becomes quieter and appears confused.
Perret's description of the young girl is one that is full of nuances and contradictions – she is both light and dark, intense and peaceful, and the details he provides about her physical appearance and actions are somewhat surreal. It's possible that the song is meant to reflect the understanding that Perret has of the complex and multifaceted nature of people in general, and women in particular.
Overall, "La jeune fille" is a song that speaks to the idea that people cannot be easily categorized or understood at a surface level, and that there is always more to discover about them. The young girl in the song is an embodiment of this idea, and Perret's lyrics capture her essence in a way that is both poignant and thought-provoking.

Cette chanson a presque 10 ans. Malheureusement, rien n'a changé, au contraire la situation aurait plutôt empiré.
