Sunny Day
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but I fear it’s gone to waste (fear, fear,
Fear, gone, gone, gone)
It’s a funny way, funny way how my hopes turn into fears
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but I fear it’s gone to waste (fear, fear,
Fear, gone, gone, gone)
Well life goes on (life goes, life goes, life goes)
It’s a sunny day, sunny day and my mind’s flipped upside down
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but it feels like cloudy grey (feels, feels,
Feels, gone, gone, gone)
It’s a funny way, funny way how my smiles turn into frowns
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but it feels like cloudy grey (feels, feels,
Feels, gone, gone, gone)
Well life goes on (life goes, life goes, life goes)
I fear I’ve gone to waste
It’s a sunny day, sunny day and my life has gone astray
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but it feels like pouring rain (feels, feels,
Feels, gone, gone, gone)
It’s a funny way, funny way how my hopes turn into fears
It’s a sunny day, sunny day but I fear it’s gone to waste (fear, fear,
Fear, gone, gone, gone)
Well life goes on (life goes, life goes, life goes)
I fear I’ve gone to waste
In Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s “Sunny Day,” the lyrics express a sense of ambiguity and confusion in regards to the singer’s emotional state. While the day is sunny, providing the potential for happiness and positivity, the lyric “but I fear it’s gone to waste” suggests a disconnect between the external environment and the singer’s internal experience. As the song progresses, the singer’s emotions become increasingly tumultuous, with their happiness turning to fear and their smiles turning to frowns. The repeated refrain of “life goes on” emphasizes the idea that even in the face of emotional uncertainty, time moves forward.
The lyrics of “Sunny Day” create a powerful emotional reflection on the unpredictability of one’s internal state, despite the external factors that offer opportunities for happiness. The song’s chorus further highlights this tension, suggesting that the sunny day feels like a “cloudy grey” or even “pouring rain” due to the singer’s emotional turmoil. Despite these struggles, however, the singer acknowledges that “life goes on” and pushes forward.
