They then landed opening slots on shows for Broken Social Scene, DFA 1979, and Hot Hot Heat, and received the honor of Best Unsigned Band at the 2002 North by Northeast music conference (Canada's version of SXSW in the U.S.). Soon after, Pilate inked a deal with indie MapleMusic Recordings, which then released their full-length debut, Caught by the Window, in 2003. The album produced two hits on national radio and MuchMusic, as the guys toured North America, Australia, and Japan. Their follow-up, Sell Control for Life's Speed, appeared back at home in mid-2006, after which the band changed its name to Pilot Speed. The quartet had signed with Wind-Up earlier that same year following the completion of its third album overall (and first as Pilot Speed), Into the West; the label released the record that September.

When you walked, now watch me die
But I know this is harder for you
For love has let you down
Yeah c'mon
I am not alone
So walk, yeah walk on by
And I failed to give you everything you need
For the fears, behind your eyes
When I can't feel you
I'm not alright, I'm not alright
When I can't feel you
I'm not alright, I'm not alright, I'm not alright
When I can't feel you
As Jesus as you throw me on the rocks
For love I left your side
'Cause I believed in love and beauty's wiles
Where Heaven shone from your eyes
Chained to your tree
I wanted you to say
I wanted you to say
I wanted to believe
Chained to your tree
I wanted you to say
I wanted you to say
Tell me that it wasn't all for naught
And it's such a waste now, it's such a waste now c'mon
'Cause I know your scared but baby don't you hide
And it's such a waste
You'll stand alone now, you'll make it somehow
The lyrics to Pilate's song "Alright" speak to the pain and heartbreak of a failed relationship, as well as the struggle to move on from it. The singer acknowledges their weakness and inability to function without their lover, but recognizes that their partner is also suffering from the fallout of the relationship's end. The chorus repeats the refrain "When I can't feel you, I'm not alright," emphasizing the singer's dependence on their former partner.
The second verse introduces religious imagery as the singer compares themselves to Jesus being thrown onto the rocks. They express regret for leaving their partner's side in pursuit of love and beauty, which they believed shone from their partner's eyes. The bridge echoes this regret, as the singer is "chained to [their partner's] tree" and longs for them to confirm that their love was not in vain.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of longing, regret, and desperation in the aftermath of a failed relationship. Despite the pain, however, the singer recognizes that they are not alone in their suffering and encourages their partner to persevere as well.

Death Sentence and Pilot Speed deserve more attention
@hollywoodsaint57
Underrated for sure
@Endrit719

@everromo1411
I know man, Im from Vancouver Canada working as a DJ and I had the chance to meet lot of bands with so much potential and talented like Pilate or Pilot Speed, and all of them just fade out cause they didn't get enough support Whitfield, Whoa! she's a babe, Hot Hot Heat, The Sessions and many more... In UK they have more support from government like Keane... Keane did a world tour with the first album!!! Dont get me wrong they are good but my point is "support" local bands...
