Mr. Do or Die
Pilot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Peace tomorrow and close the door
Weep for tomorrow and I must go
Speak tomorrow and say goodbye
Don't look back Mr. Do or Die
Hide your lover and choose to lie
Find another and I'll pass by
Live together, don't tell me why
Don't look back Mr. Do or Die
Me, I'm a holy liar, I'm a death defier
I'm an astral flier
You, you're a non-believer,
You're a great deciver
You're a sky-high fever
You're a user down to the core
You're a loser, need I say more
Find another, don't tell me why
Don't look back Mr. Do or Die
Don't look back Mr. Do or Die
Me, I'm a holy liar, I'm a death defier
I'm an astral flier

Me, I'm a holy liar, I'm a death defier
I'm an astral flier

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pilot's song "Mr. Do or Die" seem to be about a relationship that has ended or is about to end. The first verse gives a sense of finality and inevitability. The singer is leaving and the other person is advised not to look back. The second verse seems to be directed at the person the singer is leaving behind. The singer is described as a "holy liar" and a "death defier" while the other person is called a "non-believer" and a "great deceiver". There is a sense of judgment and condemnation here.

The chorus repeats the advice from the first verse not to look back, but with the addition of "Mr. Do or Die". This could be interpreted as a challenge to the other person to take action and move on. The repeated refrain "Me, I'm a holy liar, I'm a death defier, I'm an astral flier" seems to suggest that the singer is confident in their own abilities and is not afraid to take risks. It could also be seen as a way to distance themselves from the other person and establish their own identity.

Overall, the lyrics of "Mr. Do or Die" are somewhat cryptic and open to interpretation, but they convey a sense of ending and moving on, with a hint of bitterness and defiance.

top notch! Ian Bairnson at the end is very melodic and contrapuntic! Sometimes his choruses remind me Allan Holdsworth

You know something if this is truly a song from David to Billy. They must have really had a falling out. Look at the song Library door earlier on the album that had a more friendly tone to it but for David to call him a Great Deceiver and rotten to the Core it makes you wonder what actually happened. If David liked Billy that much you wonder where all this hatred came from. But it makes for a great song the section where David sings me I'm a holy liar, I'm a death defier I'm an astro flyer is outstanding

David Paton-Pilot

Ok, Billy was upset that only my songs were released as singles, didn’t bother me who’s songs were singles. So he left the band, I lost the guy who’s songwriting inspired me to write better songs. I tried very hard to convince him he was making a mistake, he wanted to prove he could be successful on his own and the evil management encouraged him because they saw another record deal and advance they could get their hands on. I was bitter and upset because I could see the end of Pilot when he left. He did become a bit of a monster with the success of Pilot. Billy was gay, I’m definitely not. He stayed in his closet for a while (hide your lover). In 1986 After realising his mistakes, he asked me to get the band back together again, I said no.
