Zach Smith is noted for his unique style of bass-playing, as he combines strumming (the most prevalent of his techniques), popping, and slapping. He uses an Alembic Stanley Clarke bass and is currently working on a solo project entitled Systems Officer. Smith tends to write most of the instrumental parts of Pinback's songs while Rob Crow's forte is lyric-writing. At their concerts, they are known for giving away limited edition tour EPs. Both feel strongly about keeping their music in the independent scene, free from excessive media attention and corporate pressures that could affect the band's original sound.

Anti Everyone
Anti, Anti...
I fit the meter
Dove in the cedar
Already miss you
I'm here to see you
Oh, I'm so dead
I'm so dead
I'm so dead
I'm so dead
I'm, I'm so dead
Till we chase our own
Till we chase our own
Till...
Once they started melting
Lost all hope
Now going back
Now no going home
It's difficult to definitively interpret Pinback's song Anti-Hu, but it seems to be about feeling disconnected and anti-social. The lyrics "Anti Human, Anti Everyone" suggest a sense of alienation from society as a whole. The line "I fit the meter, dove in the cedar" may refer to a sense of being in a rhythm or groove, but still feeling isolated in nature. "Already miss you, I'm here to see you" might suggest the singer is visiting someone they care about, but also indicates a sense of longing and sadness.
The repeated phrase "I'm so dead" may refer to feeling emotionally drained and detached from others. The lines "Till we chase our own" may suggest a desire to find individual purpose and happiness, rather than relying on society or others for fulfillment. The final lines "Once they started melting, lost all hope, now no going back, now no going home" may signify a sense of being trapped or unable to return to a previous state of contentment or connection with others.
Overall, Anti-Hu seems to be a song about feeling disconnected from others and searching for personal fulfillment. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but its melancholic tone and sense of isolation make it a poignant and moving track.
