Remember a Day
Pink Floyd Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A day when you were young
Free to play alone with time
Evening never comes
Sing a song that can't be sung
Without the morning's kiss
Queen, you shall be it if you wish
Look for your king
Why can't we stay that way
Climb your favorite apple tree
Try to catch the sun
Hide from your little brother's gun
Dream yourself away
Why can't we reach the sun
Why can't we blow the years away
Blow away
Blow away

The lyrics to Pink Floyd's "Remember a Day" take the listener on a journey back to childhood days of freedom and innocence. The singer is nostalgic for a time when they were "free to play alone with time" and "evening never comes." They encourage a queen to "look for your king" and lament the loss of the joy and simplicity of childhood games, wondering "why can't we play today" and "why can't we stay that way." The second verse continues this journey through memories of childhood, urging the listener to climb their favorite apple tree and try to catch the sun, hiding from a lauded little brother's gun. The singer asks, "why can't we reach the sun" and "why can't we blow the years away," emphasizing the longing for a return to a simpler, happier time.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on the fleeting nature of youth and freedom, and the sense of loss that comes with growing up and facing the pressures and realities of the world. The repetition of the word "remember" at the end of the song adds an air of melancholy to the nostalgia, as if the memories are being grasped at and grasped for, but are slipping away despite the singer's efforts to hold onto them.

RICHARD WRIGHT : Wish you a very happy birthday in Heaven Rick 🎂❤....Love you Rick, my MOST FAVOURITE KEYBOARD PLAYER EVER.....
Rick was to Floyd, what George was for The Beatles, the cohesive musician of the band who held all the sound together.
His style of playing the keyboards, organ, piano was very unique. Especially in the early Floyd era, the way he used to play the church organ, that resonating sound/tone with deeply sustained chords, most eminent on tracks like Cirrus Minor and Cymbaline from Floyd's More album (1968), A Saucerful of Secrets (1968), Echoes from Meddle album (1971) and Absolutely Curtains from Obscured By Clouds album (1972). It would give one a feeling of meditative calmness and at the same time take you on a trip.
Rick also used to have a song or two composed by him and doing lead vocals on most Pink Floyd albums, again very reminiscent of what George Harrison did for The Fab-Four.
And Rick's vocals had this very gentlemanly classy English style, which was so soothing to hear. Some of his fabulous songs/compositions include Remember a day, Paint Box, It would be so nice, Sysyphus, Summer 68, Pink Song (from his solo album) and Wearing the inside out.
Posted here is a song composed and sung by Rick for Pink Floyd called " It would be so nice ", the 4th single of Pink Floyd released in 1968. This single was also released as part of a compilation album of Early Floyd singles on an album called Masters of Rock (1970) similar to Relics album, which did not include this GEM
