Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two charting singles and the successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind the band's peak success with the albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd – The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards. Pink Floyd also composed several film scores.
Following personal tensions, Wright left Pink Floyd in 1979, followed by Waters in 1985. Gilmour and Mason continued as Pink Floyd, rejoined later by Wright. They produced two more albums—A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994)—and toured in support of both before entering a long hiatus. In 2005, all but Barrett reunited for a one-off performance at the global awareness event Live 8. Barrett died in 2006, and Wright in 2008. The last Pink Floyd studio album, The Endless River (2014), was based on unreleased material from the Division Bell recording sessions. In 2022, Gilmour and Mason reformed Pink Floyd to release the song "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" in protest of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
By 2013, Pink Floyd had sold more than 250 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and these albums and Wish You Were Here are among the best-selling albums of all time. Four Pink Floyd albums topped the US Billboard 200, and five topped the UK Album Chart. Pink Floyd's hit singles include "See Emily Play" (1967), "Money" (1973), "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" (1979), "Not Now John" (1983), "On the Turning Away" (1987) and "High Hopes" (1994). They were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008, Pink Floyd were awarded the Polar Music Prize in Sweden for their contribution to modern music.

Wots ... Uh The Deal
Pink Floyd Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Looks alright from where I stand
'Cause I'm the man on the outside looking in
Waiting on the first step
Show where the key is kept
Point me down the right line because it's time
Turn my lead into gold
'Cause there's chill wind blowing in my soul
And I think I'm growing old
Flash the readies
Wot's, uh the deal?
Got to make to the next meal
Try to keep up with the turning of the wheel.
Mile after mile
Stone after stone
Turn to speak but you're alone
Million mile from home you're on your own
So let me in from the cold
Turn my lead into gold
'Cause there's chill wind blowing in my soul
And I think I'm growing old
Fire bright by candlelight
And her by my side
And if she prefers we will never stir again
Someone said the promised land
And I grabbed it with both hands
Now I'm the man on the inside looking out
Hear me shout "Come on in,
What's the news and where you been?"
'Cause there's no wind left in my soul
And I've grown old
The song Wots ... Uh The Deal is a poignant reflection on the human condition, conveying a sense of longing and disconnection from the world, as well as a desire for acceptance and meaning. In the opening lines, we're presented with an idyllic image of the promised land, which the singer views from outside, hinting at a sense of exclusion and loneliness. This is reinforced by the image of the man on the outside looking in, who's waiting for someone to show him the way and let him in from the cold.
The theme of transformation is central to the song, as the singer expresses a desire to turn his lead into gold, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for alchemy, or the process of personal growth and change. The image of a chill wind blowing in his soul adds to the sense of unease and restlessness, indicating a search for something deeper and more meaningful. The singer also recognizes his mortality when he says he thinks he's growing old, further underscoring the fleeting nature of life and the importance of finding purpose and fulfillment.
As the song progresses, the mood shifts from somber to hopeful, as the singer is joined by a companion who offers comfort and solace. This is conveyed by the image of fire bright by candlelight and her by my side, which creates a sense of warmth and intimacy. Finally, the singer achieves his goal of gaining entry to the promised land, becoming the man on the inside looking out, who eagerly welcomes others and embraces new experiences.

Someone promised me something better
And I grabbed it with both hands
I seized the opportunity wholeheartedly
Now I'm the man on the inside looking out

Hear me shout "Come on in
I want to share this feeling with others
What's the news and where you been?"

A really solid review, I’m only in highscool but I’ve been into record collecting for a few years now and it’s nice to hear such a thorough look. I was not aware that blu rays were used for audio only like this, interesting stuff. Also what are your thoughts on mono? The albums were originally in mono make sense to hear in mono like early Dylan and Beatles but in general do you go for mono or stereo? I like stereo but I’ve been thinking about quadrophonic sound, mono, 5.1 and the likes. I think it’s be cool to experiment a little when I actually have enough speakers

Welcome and Thank you for the feedback. The Blu-ray was the the answer to other manufactures who wanted to compete against SACD. The Blu-Ray disc should, and is designed to, function just like a CD. You should never have to turn on the screen unless you A) want to or B) are accessing the digital copies included on the disc. Plus on the Floyd blu-ray the disc comes with 3 versions of the DSOTM . 5.1 Surround, 2.0 Stereo and 4.0 original quad mix. Documentary , Concert Scree films from the tour, that was created by Storm Thorgerson. Regarding my choice on Mono or Stereo pressings would depend on the pressing and artist. For instance some of the Beatles and Stones re-issues, I prefer the MONO VERSIONS OVER THE STEREO RE-ISSUES. Played with a Mono cartridge and the source input set at MONO from your receiver, integrated amp etc.

Great review, thanks, I really believe that all good albums should be treated to hi-res Blu-ray or SACD releases, and thanks for outlining the differences - buying Dark Side on disc is a bit of a wandering through a minefield situation! I'm just listening to the new Marillion Fugazi Blu-ray Audio release, which is mind-blowing.

All valid points. To me the most important part is the sound quality coming through my 5.1 sound system and at this time cannot be matched in a digital format.
All good!

Thanks for tuning in to my channel. The two versions of the SACD discussed in my video are the same. I do not believe I ever said they was any difference. I only chose the Blue ray version as my favorite over SACD ( 30th) because of the extra listening/video options available. The A.P. was highlighted because of the total package. Like yourself I am waiting on the Animals box set scheduled for release some time this year. F.Y.I. : THE NEW box set sticker, indicating a package which includes vinyl LP, CD, DVD and blu-ray, with all formats including the new James Guthrie stereo mixes and the DVD and blu-ray including the 5.1 SURROUND VERSION. Forza Italia !

A great production as to be expected being Pink Floyd, jthe only negative on this release is the lack of digital data no album name or track names when inserted in players unlike the Wish You Were Here release which has the metadata when disc loaded, other than that excellent, just saying

Please note differences/time on SACDs that you hear between the 2003 and 2021 issues? I can't hear anything at all different... I hear better quality mastering on the 2021 CD layer but that is it, and I understand only the CD layer is from the later 2011 mastering.
What I understand... the SACD layer is just a re-issue of the 2003 mastering and no different.
Alessandro Carmassi
Yes...Infact Acoustic Sounds confirmed stereo & 5.1ch DSD is identical to the 2003 SACD. Only the CD layer is different.
Alessandro Carmassi
The new SACD version has a great looking new package but Acoustic Sounds confirmed that the stereo & 5.1ch DSD layer is identical to the 2003 SACD. Only the CD layer is different... so there is absolutely no difference in sound between the 2003 and 2021 versions if you're listening to the 5.1 or stereo mix on SACD. Import prices in Europe going over 50 euros a copy won't justify purchasing it only for the CD package I guess... I wished they would concentrate on remaining releases such as Meddle or Animals or even The Wall on SACD 5.1 instead of releasing the same things over and over again...My two cents. Cool video though... Cheers for Italy
