Take It Back
Pink Floyd (UK) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He love rains down on me easy as the breeze
I listen to her breathing it sounds like the waves on the sea
I was thinking all about her, burning with rage and desire
We were spinning into darkness; the earth was on fire

She could take it back, she might take it back some day

So I spy on her, I lie to her, I make promises I cannot keep
Then I hear her laughter rising, rising from the deep
And I make her prove her love for me, I take all that I can take
And I push her to the limit to see if she will break

She might take it back, she could take it back some day

Now I heave seen the warnings, screaming from all sides
It's easy to ignore them and G-d knows I've tried
All of this temptation, it turned my faith to lies
Until I couldn't see the danger or hear the rising tide

She can take it back, she will take it back some day

She can take it back, she will take it back some day

She can take it back, she will take it back some day

Overall Meaning

The song "Take It Back" by Pink Floyd is a hauntingly beautiful ballad about love, obsession, and the consequences of our actions. The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, as the singer describes the feeling of being loved by someone - "He love rains down on me easy as the breeze" - and the comfort and safety he derives from being with that person - "I listen to her breathing it sounds like the waves on the sea". However, the song quickly takes a darker turn as the singer admits to his intense feelings of longing and desire for this person, as well as his tendency to lie, manipulate, and push her to the limit to see if she will break. He knows that what he is doing is wrong, but he cannot help himself - "I was thinking all about her, burning with rage and desire / We were spinning into darkness; the earth was on fire".

The chorus of the song is perhaps the most poignant part, as the singer acknowledges that the person he loves may eventually realize that she has had enough and "take it back" - her love, her trust, her time. He knows that he has pushed her too far, that he has taken too much and given too little, and that there may come a point where she will decide to leave him. Despite this knowledge, he cannot stop himself from continuing down this path - "And I make her prove her love for me, I take all that I can take / And I push her to the limit to see if she will break".

Overall, "Take It Back" is a powerful song about the complexities of love and the ways in which our own insecurities and desires can lead us down a dangerous path. It is a cautionary tale about the importance of treating those we love with respect and kindness, and the consequences that can arise when we fail to do so.

Ella podría volver a tomarlo,
Ella debería volver a tomarlo

Ella podría volver a tomarlo,

I’ve seen so many concerts in my lifetime and I’m telling you right now NOTHING comes close to a Pink Floyd concert with the original members. When you are in the center of the audience and you are looking up at this visual and sound experience you really feel like you are looking up at the mothership. The experience was unbelievable. One the greatest bands of all time.

But Dave Gilmour wasn't an original member of Pink Floyd, he only joined when Syd Barrett was becoming too unhinged to perform on stage. That being said I don't think Pink Floyd is really Pink Floyd without Dave Gilmour 😅

So envious

mick count

Debatable that pal,I would say greatest band of all time

Alan Doane

It must have been amazing to see Syd live.

Unbelievably uplifting song with a critical life changing warning and David Gilmours vocals perfectly encapsulate this brilliantly, the division bell album is so underrated and what epic performances to showcase this at Earls court in 1994,the last of the live shows on this monstrous scale.....never ever to be seen again.

"TDB" is not uNdErRaTeD, it's intentionally neglected by music journalists, Waters' cultists and even PF fans since when it was released. The character assassination against "TDB" and "Pulse" makes it impossible for both to be "underrated."
Until the 2000s you were deemed "ignorant" if you said you liked "TDB" and called yourself a PF fan. Nowadays "TDB" has a popularity that it never had.
