In Japan, they are remembered for a run of pop-chart hits from roughly 1976 to 1979, but in the United States, they are best known for their failed 1980 NBC-TV variety show Pink Lady , later released on DVD under the title Pink Lady and Jeff.
They also have interesting videos and have become quite a pop culture icon for Japanese women of that era, many state that they still know all the moves to "Pepper Keibu."
Pink Lady is one of only two Japanese artists to have reached the Billboard Top 40. Pink Lady reached #37 with the single "Kiss In The Dark".

You're playing with me
I saw you coming from across the room
From the twinkle in your eye
To the kiss of your lips you're telling a lie
I see you through a window
As soon as youve started you're ready to go
Because you
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
You're leading me on
In everything you do you try to
But I've heard about you for a long long time
I'm afraid you're gonna find
That I'm not gonna fall for the same old lie
I see you through a window
As soon as youve started you're ready to go
I'm not the kind to have the time for you.
Because you
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
Kiss in the Dark, runaway kiss in the dark
The song "Kiss in the Dark" by Pink Lady is a cautionary tale about a woman who recognizes the tactics of a player trying to make a move on her. In the first verse, Pink Lady expresses her awareness of the man's type and his intentions towards her. She notices his approach from across the room, seeing the gleam in his eye and the seductive smile on his lips. However, she understands that these moves are just part of his act, and he's not to be taken seriously.
In the chorus, Pink Lady delivers the message that this man is just another player looking for a "runaway kiss in the dark." She doesn't want to waste her time on someone who's not sincere or genuine. She recognizes that he is leading her and trying to manipulate her, and even though she's heard of this type of behavior before, she's not willing to fall for it. The chorus reinforces Pink Lady's resolve to avoid this type of man and his deceptive ways.
Overall, "Kiss in the Dark" is a song that showcases Pink Lady's strength and independence. She doesn't want to be manipulated by someone who isn't real, she's not afraid to call him out, and she's not going to fall for his tricks. Rather, she is assertive and in charge of her own choices when it comes to romance.

Fun song. You honestly never would have guessed Mie and Kei spoke very little English at the time, their pronunciation is impeccable. I have to respect them for working their asses off to try to make it in the U.S.; it wasn't their fault they came along as the disco bubble was bursting and that they got saddled with such a turkey of a TV variety show.

Even worse is that the producers of said show forced them to memorize their lines in English which they had no idea what they were really saying and Pink Lady had asked to perform their Japanese hit songs in their native tongue and they were denied and forced to sing songs that they didn’t even know the words or meaning to on air. They looked super confused on camera because they were confused at everything going on around them.

@Kent Huang They did perform Monster and UFO on this show.

But that was towards the end of the show

@Kent Huang UFO was performed in episode 3, so it came early on in what was surely hoped to be a full season. It's curious that "Kiss in the Dark," their one single to reach the Billboard Top 40, was never performed - with the song being in English, you'd think it would have met the approval of NBC. But this was just one of many highly questionable decisions made by NBC. Pink Lady didn't fail because they were wrong for the U.S. market. They failed because NBC wouldn't allow them to do what they did well. And giving them time to learn English before they were rushed into production would've helped.

This was also a top 40 hit in the US, oddly enough!

This was the only other song from Asia to be a Top 40 hit until BTS came to the states. The only other Japanese/Asian artist to do so was Kyu Sakamoto with what an American DJ called “Sukiyaki.”
