Who Cares
Pink Turns Blue Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't dare to dream
I'm buying balloons
I let them go
Everything outside's
Like a movie I saw
I do look unhappy
I cannot be trusted
I cannot be trusted
Fight the impulse
To kiss myself
And as we shake hands
The whole world melts
It's rushing through
Touched by your ignorance
Anything is possible
At a miniskirt party
At a miniskirt party
Who cares
I know that I don't
Nothing is lost
Sense weirdness starting
It's just a dream
The past isn't real
A vanity mirror
An attractive monkey
Out on the streets
It doesn't go up no higher
It doesn't go up no higher
The lyrics to Pink Turns Blue's "Who Cares" express a feeling of detachment from reality and a lack of hope or ambition. The first stanza paints a picture of someone who has lost touch with life, and is just going through the motions. They buy balloons only to let them go, as if trying to escape from something. The outside world seems distant, like a movie they saw and can't quite remember. The singer admits to being unhappy, and feels they cannot be trusted.
The next stanza introduces a strange impulse - to kiss oneself - and describes a moment when the whole world seems to melt away during a handshake. The line "touched by your ignorance" suggests a willingness to surrender to someone else's beliefs or perspective, even if it's not rational. The mention of a miniskirt party is curious; it could be interpreted as a moment of freedom or rebellion, or perhaps a longing for a simpler time when such things were more thrilling.
The chorus, "who cares, I know that I don't," is a resigned acknowledgement that nothing really matters, at least to the singer. The final stanza offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting that weirdness or absurdity is just a dream, and the past doesn't define us. The vanity mirror and the attractive monkey might represent superficiality and temptation, respectively. The final line, "it doesn't go up no higher," could mean that the singer has accepted their limitations, or perhaps that they have nowhere to go but up.
